This film is an absolute gem and a must-watch for anyone who loves storytelling at its finest. From the opening scene to the closing credits, it keeps you fully immersed and emotionally invested. The direction by Ivona Juka is masterful, with every shot beautifully composed (kudos to DOP Dragan Ruljancic), and the pacing is just perfect - not a dull moment in sight!

One of my viewing suprises this year in the INTERNATIONAL OSCAR SUBMISSIONS is the truly superb Croatian entry, BEAUTIFUL EVENING, BEAUTIFUL DAY from director Ivona Juka. A film about a group of four film makers, who are best friends, war heros and gay, battle for freedom of speech, as well as their own freedoms in 1950's communist Yugoslavia. The film, scrumptiously shot in black and white, is raw, shocking and beautiful at the same time. Both Intense and emotionally gripping. Aligned with what is going on in the country now, you can see, through these characters, the hopes and dreams of many gay men being destroyed in the name of a corrupt and unjust system of government. I recommend you see this one.
This film is a captivating look at friendship, courage, and the cost of standing up for what you believe in. Set in 1957 Yugoslavia, it delves into the lives of four artists caught between their ideals and a repressive regime. The characters are complex, and the story unfolds with gripping intensity, driven by outstanding performances of Dado Cosic and Emir Hadzihafizbegovic, and beautiful black and white cinematography. Powerful soundtrack by Michael Brook should also be mentioned!
It's not just a historical drama; it's a deeply human story about sacrifice. Ivona Juka once again demonstrates how to deliver top-notch storytelling in film.
I would highly recommend it! 10/10.

Beautiful Evening, Beautiful Day is a cinematic gem that transports you back to the vibrant and tumultuous era of post-war Yugoslavia, but it is not a historical film. Its story can be put in any time, and that's the power of it.
The film paints a vivid picture of a generation of young, idealistic filmmakers as they navigate the complexities of art, politics, friendship, and above all - love.
The performances are mostly stellar, with each actor bringing their character to life with passion and authenticity. The cinematography is breathtaking, its clean black&white images are perfectly capturing the beauty and melancholy of the period. The film's exploration of the power of art and the human spirit is both inspiring and thought-provoking.
While it might be difficult to watch at times, the film's overall impact is undeniable. It's a must-watch for anyone who appreciates great storytelling and stunning visuals.

Watched the film with no expectations, but i was pleasantly surprised. It's beautifully shot, have some strong performances, and sends a powerful message about the essence of every human being - freedom - and how it's being radically oppressed by the system. At moments and some particular scenes it's even painful to watch.
The whole film and story eerily evokes today's times we live in, so it's even more important because of that.
The film is also a candidate for the Oscar for Best International Feature (former Foreign Language category), so hopefully it performs well during this award season.
