When the Mask Slips at the Gala

Episode is tense and fast-paced penultimate chapter, successfully bringing one major villain's arc to a stunning, if rushed, conclusion while setting the stage for a dramatic finale. The episode centers around a lavish Nevermore Academy gala and the twisted schemes of the new principal, Barry Dort.

The episode's opening reveals a crucial flashback: Dort is the mastermind behind the "Morning Song" cult, using the flamboyant "Gideon" as a frontman for his scam. In the present, he continues his manipulative ways, blackmailing Bianca and her mother into helping him swindle a hefty donation from Wednesday's Grandmama. Wednesday, ever the astute detective, quickly uncovers Dort's plan.

The climax of the episode takes place at the gala, where Wednesday, with the help of her friends, orchestrates Dort's public humiliation. The moment is a masterclass in collaboration, with Enid and Agnes stealing the show with a perfectly choreographed dance routine to a new Lady Gaga song ("The Dead Dance"). While Dort's reign of terror is brought to a satisfying, if somewhat abrupt, end by Ajax's Gorgon stare, the episode leaves a more profound threat lingering.

    • Trivia
The title is the usual in-joke: The original is "Show Me The Money!" as (repeatedly) said by Rod Tidwell to Jerry Maguire (1996) in the movie of the same name.
