A word of praise on this video documentary as it introduced me to an author I wasn't familiar in any way, except for hearing about the
film adaptations of his work (such as "Mãos Vazias" and "A Casa Assassinada", yet to be seen. It's strange that the name of Lúcio Cardoso isn't
more discussed or so well-known as many of his literary contemporaries that appear in this tribute to him (Raquel de Queiróz being the biggest
name), and the salutation I give to this very project is for bringing the sense of curiosity after hearing excerpts of his work and his sensitivity, the admiration
from his fellow writers and the filmmakers who adapted his works, plus the countless funny stories about the man.
A highly commendable documentary, although a little disjointed with its lack of structure which makes the presentation of it all somewhat
lacking. If following a more conventional biography kind of setting, with more facts and dates, it'd be more concise, rather than having
interviews cut with Buza Ferraz reading/performing excerpts from Cardoso novels, and clips from the film adaptations; and not that private life
is so worth discussing when it comes to writers or historical figures, but it'd be interesting to see a take about an openly gay man living in
critical and prejudicial times - just by the peculiar and funny stories shared one can notice something a little special about him, yet the folks
interviewed in the early 1990's just stick with the funny.
Directors Karla Holanda and Eliane Terra developed a series focused on writers in that decade, and this is their first entry, out of six.
Very good. 7/10.
