Haunting of Mount Gede

I've always gone hiking and this story hits close to home. I never personally experience something as scary as the movie but I definitely heard these sort of stories from other hikers. I love the take on the true story, the end credits where they show the real "Maya" telling what happen to her friend is absolutely good detail. It may not be full of jumpscares but it is a very good written movie for those who enjoys folk-lore horror. This movie sounds more like a cautionary tale rather than a full ok horror fest. If you expect jumpscares and fear factor, this story is not for you but if you love folk-horror, this movie hits home.

This movie was boring and hard to watch from start to finish. The story didn't make much sense, and it felt all over the place with no clear direction. The characters were flat, uninteresting, and made frustrating decisions that didn't feel believable. For a horror movie, it completely lacked tension and scares. I kept waiting for something to happen-some twist or creepy moment-but nothing ever did. It was just slow and dull. Even the parts that were supposed to be scary felt cheap and predictable. I don't recommend it at all.

Even the parts that were meant to be emotional or dramatic didn't hit right. The acting wasn't the worst I've seen, but the script gave the cast nothing to work with. Scenes dragged on for way too long without adding anything important to the plot. The "based on a true story" angle might sound interesting, but the movie didn't use it in a meaningful way. It just felt like a gimmick.

Plot is cheesy, acting is cringy, even special effects are not believable. But these are not the only downsides of the movie, the list goes on endlessly.

The characters are just forgettable and irritating throughout the movie, especially when the only thing they do when confronting something unusual is to repeat the name of the possessed. I doubt that the script writer, as well as the actors, know what emotions are and how social interactions function. And yes, the so-called twist is illogical and honestly very cringy.

If you have 90 minutes at your disposable, use it on something else. This movie is a total waste of time.
