After surviving a suicide attempt, comedian Eli Thompson faces his past on his birthday, but a night out at the Justice Pub spirals into chaos when the Devil arrives. Eli must confront betrayal, revenge, and supernatural terror to survive.
Written and directed by Durden Godfrey. Starring Seseley Monat J, Steveland Dore' Thompson and Daisey Annel Gasca.
I wanted to like this movie so bad. I only even really checked because one of my friends is from Duval. I just knew in my bones that this was going to be one of those movies that was so bad it was good. I can't say that it was.
It started off strong. Eli makes his attempt and we catch up with him six months later, on his birthday. At this point I thought we were setting up a Friday-esqe horror movie. We get introduced to a multitude of colorful and unique characters. Unfortunately The Devil makes sure that isn't the case.
The acting wasn't great but I try not to be to harsh in that regard when it comes to low budget films. Direction was ok. Some scenes went uncomfortably long and a couple of intimate scenes felt wildly out of place. Characters were fairly one dimensional.
I gotta be honest, I had low expectations coming into this. Unfortunately, The Devil Came To Duval didn't meet them. Unlike some other films I've viewed, I not mad at it for taking up time I'll never get back. It wasn't good but Im not mad at it.
