The TV mini-series is an extended version of the 1984 movie. It features more nudity, including from the young male and female leads who were 12 at the time.

The mini-series is around 15 minutes longer (135 minutes) than the feature film version (121 minutes) and therefore contains some scenes that were not included in the movie version. Both versions are now available on DVD.

Ronja remained Hanna Zetterberg's only role as an actress.
