  • Sophie and Leo spend summer with Grandma Clara, a retired biologist with a motorcycle sidecar. After finding living dinosaur eggs in a cave, they protect the hatched, gifted creatures from those who'd exploit them.
  • Ten-year-old Sophie eagerly anticipates a summer of adventure with her daring Grandma Clara, while her brother Leo, 13, remains skeptical. Clara, a retired biologist, takes them on thrilling escapades to famous sites around her hometown with her sidecar motorcycle. Their summer takes a wild turn when they find dinosaur eggs in the legendary "Dragon Hole" cave. Clara recognizes the pulsing life within, leading to a mission to protect the eggs. Once hatched, these dinosaurs display incredible talents-rapid learning or speaking abilities. As Sophie and Leo bond with their new dino friends, they must protect them from those who would exploit them, turning each day into a game of hide-and-seek.

Synopsis

  • SOPHIE (10) is looking forward to spending the summer vacation with her grandma CLARA. Her brother LEO (13) not so much. For action-loving Sophie, Clara Freudenreich is, without a doubt, the best grandma in the whole world! Every day with her brings a new adventure: not only does she run a curiosity store filled to the last nook and cranny with mysterious, exciting things, the retired biologist and zoologist also regularly embarks on great trips with the children on her sidecar motorcycle, during which they explore legendary sights of the region. Leo is more the indoor-type, perpetually glued to smart phone and internet data, so Clara's line of thinking is rather alien to him - and more than a bit intimidating. Grandma knows like no other how to make these encounters with nature and history lively and exciting - Sophie thinks it's just great, but it's rather too exciting for Leo's taste. Clara's Credo - everyone can learn to discover the adventurer in themselves and expand their own horizons - fills him with dread.

Their very first excursion sets an adventure in motion that exceeds Sophie's wildest expectations and Leo's greatest fears: in the "dragon drop," a rock cave where "real" dragons are said to have been sighted again and again for centuries, they come upon four huge eggs. Clara examines them and concludes that they are dinosaur eggs - pulsing with growing life! They bring the eggs to safety, nurture them, and, finally, very strange creatures hatch out of them: real live dinosaurs! And what makes these dinosaurs so unique? The dinosaurs absorb knowledge and information at lightning speed, develop distinct personalities virtually overnight - and they can speak! Some of them also develop a pronounced passion for homemade Gugelhupf cake.

Clara informs WILHELMINA, president of the Adventure Club of Europe, of which Clara has been a long-standing member, about the amazing find, much to Sophie's delight. It's her greatest ambition to join the famed club just like her grandma did many years ago.Clara, Sophie, Leo and Wilhelmina agree to keep the discovery a secret for the time being.

However, since there is a lot of gossip in the Adventure Club, it doesn't take long for MONTGOMERY "MONTY" FLYNN III to hear about it. Monty, the descendant of one of the legendary founding figures of the ACE, happens to finds himself in a very precarious situation, as he has high debts to the sinister and mysterious DR. SPECK. She turns out to be extremely interested in the dinos - smelling huge profit - and forces Monty to look for the elusive creatures.

Meanwhile, Clara and the kids try to find out where the dinosaur eggs came from, what they are all about and what is supposed to happen to them. Is there a deeper message behind the appearance of the dinosaurs? In the end, is this strange incident somewhat related to the mysterious disappearance of Clara's husband HERMANN many years ago?

In the meantime, more mundane problems must be solved: The curiosity store is bursting at the seams and is not a suitable place for the dinos, also because in the village the UFO-centric postman JO stirs up unrest with his obsessive fear of an extraterrestrial invasion. Fortunately, Count Alphonse, a suave elderly gentleman and old friend and admirer of Clara, makes his remote chateau, a magical, charmingly run-down estate, available to Clara. Here the colorful dinos have ample space and run, even if their encounters with the local livestock - not to mention ROBERTROBERT, the estate's sinister caretaker - are a bit bumpy.

Taming a rascally bunch of dinosaurs who get up to all sorts of mischief is a difficult task in itself. But when you also have to hide the whole chaos from the public, things get turbulent. And so Clara and the children have their hands full trying to hide the existence of the dinosaurs from the paranoid letter carrier Jo, Dr. DIWALI, the dedicated mayor of the neighboring village, and AMIN, the righteous village policeman. The biggest danger, however, comes from the mayor's curious children, because ROKI and TENDO, are not as easily fooled as the adults. And let's not forget Montgomery Flynn III, who's getting closer and closer to the dinosaurs and who's definitely up to no good...

Monty, under considerable pressure from Dr. Speck, is breathing down their necks, as Sophie, Leo and Clara try feverishly to find explanations and solutions. The more they look into it, the more it becomes clear that Hermann's wild and unfettered research is at the core of all this. And everything related to Hermann is also related to the Adventure Club.So they decide to pay the club's legendary secret library a visit, but they fall foul of the club's very strict and inflexible rules and are forbidden to enter. Aided by one of the dinosaurs, they try to break into the library, with disastrous consequences: They get caught. Although the dinos manage to remain unseen, Dr. Speck uses this misdeed to replace Wilhelmina with Monty. The baddies - which are now revealed to include shady government agent BILKO and robotic librarian NUESSLI - have literally taken over the ACE. So what was once a trusted ally is now under the control of the wicked opposition.

While Monty and Dr. Speck's henchmen are searching the labyrinthine - and by no means safe - grounds of the secret library, the kids and the dinos come up with materials pointing towards a certain ENZO CARRERA who has worked with Hermann. It turns out Hermann had been researching portals to other worlds and times and had tried to open one such portal when he disappeared.

They managed to locate Carrera, who lives in seclusion high up in the Mont Blanc Massif. It turns out that he is the inventor of the strange machine that enabled the dinosaurs to talk. And that this machine can also communicate with the other universe!

Monty, definitely no quitter, manages to steal Carrera's machine and causes all kinds of havoc with it when he continues to go after the dinos. But the chaos this causes helps Monty to steal the fourth egg. Sophie and Leon have to tell Roki and Tendowhat's going on - and together they succeed in retrieving the egg from Monty. Just in time before the fourth egg hatches.

From the fourth egg springs a fast-growing brachiosaurus, FLO, a sweet, kind creature of increasingly gigantic proportions and a strangely magic aura. This, of course escalates their problems: An animal that size can impossibly stay hidden for long, no matter how brilliant the efforts of Clara and the kids to flamboozle the adult world around them are.

But with Carrera's help, they are finally able to shed some light on Hermann's theories of hidden worlds and dimensions - and come to the conclusion that Hermann might still be alive in some parallel universe. This is quite a shock for Clara - and it lets them all intensify their search for an entry into these worlds. They go back to the cave where they found the eggs but is has collapsed and there seems to be no way they can re-trace how the eggs got there.

Right then, they are in for another shock: While the kids have been able to foil Monty's tireless efforts to get his hands on the dinosaurs, Dr. Speck has lost all patience with Monty and had her henchmen get proactive on their own. And they succeed where Monty failed: they kidnap one of the dinosaurs. And while they were at it, they took Leo too.

Sophie and Clara manage to trace the Leo and the dinos' whereabouts: Speck has them taken to an ancient steel mill where she keeps a secret laboratory.

But when the two adventuresses try to break Leo and the dino free, they get caught in a cunning trap set by Dr. Speck.

Everything seems to be lost but Monty, now grasping the full extent of Dr. Speck's evil intentions, has a change of heart and helps them escape.

They try to make their getaway through an abandoned net of railway tunnels that previously were used to transport miners and ore for miles underground. It's a wild and dangerous chase, with Dr. Speck and her rocket-driven wheelchair in hot pursuit. Finally, the ancient train derails, catapulting our heroes back onto the surface.

They come away unharmed, but Dr. Speck thinks them dead - which gives Clara and the kids the opportunity to come up with a plan to thwart the opposition.

At a fake inauguration ceremony at the secret library, they expose Bilko, Nuessli and Dr. Speck, liberating the Adventure Club from their venal manipulations. Wilhelmina is re-instated as club president but it doesn't feel like a victory: They have not managed to come closer to solve the mystery of Hermann's disappearance, let alone save him.

So Clara re-traces everything they did and focusses again on the machine that enabled Carrera to communicate with Hermann. The kids get the machine to properly work again - and finally they get in touch with Hermann!

The pieces of the puzzle start coming together: Everything leads back to where it started - at Clara's quaint curiosity store in the idyllic Alsatian village. Here they finally locate the portal to the other universe and manage to squeeze it open long enough for Hermann to squeeze through. But before he can be fully reunited with Clara and the grand kids he had never seen, there is one final confrontation with Dr. Speck, bringing things to a head.

Once more they prevail and rejoice with cake and cocoa. But their troubles aren't over: There is the small matter of the other universe that is about to perish - and of course they still have to hide the dinos from the unsuspecting outside world. But that's another story...
