The season started off promising besides some pacing issues but now there is too much time spent on side characters and plots that (at least as we know so far) do not have any long-term impact.
This comes at the expense of the main characters, whose story-lines do not seem to get the time and attention they need. Most of them are often even reduced to the background (yes, they are all pretty but would like to see more of their stories).
This episode was a good example because multiple side characters got a lot of screen-time (let's not even mention the unearned redemptions) and many of the main characters were largely neglected.
The 118 as a found family is at the heart of this series and we only get occasional glimpses of them and then spend the majority of the episode off on some side quests with some side characters. The pacing also feels off with plots being picked up and then seemingly forgotten the next episode.
Still waiting for the mid-season finale and then for 8b and hoping they are able to resolve these issues.

This was one of those fun, sometimes funny, always poignant shows, but this season looks like its demise. The whole TV show subplot is ridiculous. How could a civilian just join the fire squad? And don't get me started about poor Eddie. His relationship with Christopher was the heart of the show. I'm guessing the actor who plays Christopher wasn't available, but why create such an unlikely scenario, where he is so angry with his dad for dating his dead mom's doppelganger (another low point for the show) that he moves away? And, of course, the worst subplot of the season was the evil councilwoman who wanted revenge on Hen. It's so far-fetched that it almost becomes funny. It's a shame that such a wonderful show became this soapy mess.
I liked the episode though I feel like we have a lot important storyline's to focus on with our main characters. Cristopher, Eddie's GAY arc, Buck's sexuality journey Maddie pregnancy etc.
I just hope those storylines wont be rushed because of guest character's like Brad and Gerrard.
We truly don't need to dwell on plot devices too long even when nothing major happens I want to see the core characters interacting, moving forward, have fun. Like possible Eddie, Karen, Maddie friendship. More Buck and Hen 🙏. Less cops though.
Buddie for sure will blow the ratings through the roof so I'm sure there will be a couple more seasons(at least 🙏)

With all my respect Tim want everyone to stop watching 9-1-1 at this point ?!!!!!!
I'm genuinely asking the writers sideline ryan at every opportunity. It's so disappointing because Eddie is an incredible character with so much potential, yet he doesn't get the same attention as the others.
Bathena storylines have become so repetitive and overdone. ....There's only one episode left before the hiatus and Chris is still missing, Buck or Karen only appears for family drama, Buddie still haven't addressed Chris or their clear feelings for each other, and Gerrard is somehow still alive. And the writers still focus on some random cop instead!!! When you are gonna listen to the fans?????

- TriviaIt is possible that the shooting during the traffic stop is loosely based on the 2021 shooting of Dante Wright, by officer Kim Potter in MN. The details are different (Wright, a young black man, was pulled over for expired tags and also had an outstanding warrant) but the shouting of "Taser! Taser! Taser!", the officer mistakenly grabbing their firearm instead of the taser, and the point blank shooting in the chest lines up fairly closely. Unfortunately, Dante Wright was pronounced dead on the scene, where in this episode the motorist survived, so the outcomes were also drastically different.
