FAQ

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Freedom Cry

No. Ade is an ancestor of Milton Jones, an Abstergo employee who was never an Animus test subject. They obtained a sample of his blood during an employee physical, and learned of his ancestral ties afterward. Ade's memories are viewed by an anonymous Animus researcher, presumably the same one who relived the Black Flag and King Washington memories.

This is the same package that Ezio Auditore gave to the Chinese Assassin Shao Jun in the short film Assassin's Creed: Embers (2011). It's true purpose would not be revealed until Assassin's Creed: Rogue (2014).

Although both groups have waxed and waned (with Assassins bureaus occasionally being decimated to the point of near extermination) it is somewhat curious that Ade seems to be the only Assassin in the city, as earlier installments (most notably Assassin's Creed III: Liberation (2012) by the same writer) link the Assassins and the Maroon resistance, most notably Francois Mackandal, but there is no mention of him or Anto (the Maroon Assassin contact encountered in the core campaign of Black Flag). The Maroons recruited by Ade as he liberates plantations probably included Mackandal and a few others would join the Assassins later on.

Though it is curious that Templars active in Saint Domingue, such as Kumi Berko or Dominique Jean, are never encountered, the minimal (but not completely nonexistent) Templar presence in Port-au-Prince is more easily explained; the British Empire was ultimately the strongest world power at this point in history, so they are more concerned with securing (and maintaining) a foothold there. That said, their fingerprints are all over the Geodesic Expedition, as Templar scientists Charles La Condamine and Pierre Bougeur, while being tailed by Ade, prominently mention Antonio de Ulloa, a Templar featured in Liberation, as a young prodigy who will go far.
