Classic Themes, Authentic Execution
Of course, it's early days, and some tropes are familiar - you get the classic "addicted sibling," the matriarchal mother with demands, the pressing expectations of success and stability. But here those tropes feel like entry points rather than limitations; because of how well the characters are drawn, the clichés don't feel lazy. Also, the chemistry between sisters is strong, and even when the show leans into dramatic turns, it carries emotional truth.
Them Oul Walshes
Really enjoying this so far. Only on episode 2, but it has captured the "serious with a comic slant" feel of Marian's books. Some great scenes in both episodes and lots of eye rolling at Mammy's protestations. Excellent stuff! I like also that the family immediately feels like a real dynamic, which keeps you wanting to see them all together.
A good reboot
It's been strange watching the Walsh sisters being rebooted in the 2020s, after having read their stories mumumble years ago!
They're so familiar, and so different from how I imagined them. Mammy Walsh looks completely wrong, but is also absolutely perfect, so I am already a complete fan. The sisters might look completely different, but so far they are acting like I imagined, though we are mainly still in Rachel's and Anna's stories to start with.
I really can't imagine how it would to experience this show it you hadn't read the Marian Keyes novels. For those who don't know it is a series of five novels, each told in the voice of one of the five sisters. There has been a new one recently, but I won't say more, because I might drop a spoiler by mistake.
I am really enjoying it, with the stories being simplified for TV and woven together into a single tapestry.
Worth way more than the rating I am seeing presently (currently it is sitting at 6.9)

Disappointing
A new series involving sisters in an Irish setting. Top class actors. Top class writers. Should be good huh! Nope!!!!
It's like a Fair City Episode on Steroids. There's no reality, the storyline is complicated and puzzling. The direction is muddled and confusing. I gavent read the book and am.going solely on the new TV series but TBH it's boring confusing and not as good as expected. Sorry.

A Warm, Heartfelt Start
The Walsh Sisters is the kind of show that gives you comfort and sting at once. It's soft in tone but hard in feeling. It's the kind of Sunday-night hug we all need, with sharp edges that remind us every family is full of contradictions. For fans of character-driven drama, for those who love stories of sisterhood and loyalty, this is a promising start - I'm already invested.
