"Somebody Somewhere" is the sort of show that is the reason I've been going through the Guardian's best TV of the year lists. I'd never heard of it or seen an advert, or notice anywhere. I'm glad I did find it though, as it's a perfect juxtaposition of foul-mouthed comedy, and sweet natured drama that you're ever going to find.
The family farmhouse has now been rented to a strange Icelandic man (Olafur Darri Olafsson) who Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison) is wary of but whom Sam (Bridget Everett) develops a rapport with. Joel (Jeff Hiller) is finding the compromises of living with Brad (Tim Bagley) a bit much. Fred (Murray Hill) is also finding the demands of his fiancée Susan (Jennifer Mudge) particularly those in relation to his diet, a struggle.
As established by the previous two seasons, the series continues to show a steady realistic mix of relationships, and the issues within them, but in a funny and sweet way. Truth be told, again not a whole lot actually happens across the run. A couple of relationships change a little bit. Tricia buys are car and gives her old one to Sam. There's some singing and some crying. The reactions feel authentic though, even just down to the genuine laughing in some of the scenes.
Sometimes, despite that sweet nature it can be particularly gross. This time it's not so much explosive diarrhoea as Tricia's STD.
This was the end of the road for the show. It feels like an honest place to end - though there were avenues to continue. I'd choosing to remember the good times I've had, rather than worry about the ones I'm no longer getting.
