Pianist Ray Peter yearns for the singing starlet Joanna Porter. He finds his big chance when character actor Clara Brown proposes a temporary switch. When the Black Hart starts booming in business with Clara in the lead role besides Joanna, Ms. Porter finds herself going through a downward spiral with Keys there to catch her.

With an open slot needing to be filled, fear creeps in on Mark Hoggs Jr. when Sheriff Donald Knightley auditions to be the Black Hart's angel. While Joanna keeps the young sheriff busy, Hoggs takes revenge in the Red Hand. While there, he shares a new perspective with widow Smokey about her late husband's fate.

The blackmail game stacks up between Whiskers and Keys as they team up to break Smokey out of prison. Tension rises with their relationship as the two find highs and lows within their big escape plan. Meanwhile, a worried Jo stays late at the Black Hart. She shares her worries and confessions over a drink with Hoggs.

With a mayor's head on the line, the gun slinging team of Whiskers, Smokey, and X embark on their big heist. However, the group quickly comes to a problem when outside the white head stands their greatest enemy yet: musical theatre. Starlet Joanna Porter rounds up her troupe of Donald Knightley, Ray Peter, and the rest of the Black Hart band to teach the bandits a lesson through song.

Thanks to X's blunt command, Whiskers finds himself up late at night to assassinate the town's last prospector: Spots. But when he gets to the old man, Spots redirects him with the task of picking at the ground in search of oil. Over the night and starry sky, the two converse about Spots' history growing up under the church, his move to the town with no name, and the love and loss found along the way.

After a traumatic timeline of events, the Black Hart holds a special night in honor of those who have fallen in recent times. Whiskers tries his hand away from gun-slinging and rule-breaking and tries an honest lifestyle working under Hoggs much to the upset of Ray and Jo. Meanwhile, Smokey enacts her revenge plan to avenge the death of her husband by torturing the perceived killer into submission.

As the water begins to boil within the town, Ray decides to cut ties and make an escape with his love. Jo, however, isn't able to make such a commitment. The two argue whether to leave or stay when it shows that something darker and deeper lies in their relationship. A guilty conscience and the lack of acknowledgment of your past leads to some messy outcomes demonstrated through the power that is X.

After being treated as a joke all his life, Donald finally steps into his father's ginormous shoes and attempts to finish what he started. However things don't go very well when his arrest gets violent leaving Donald with a body to bury. With the help of a criminal, the young sheriff makes it deep into the desert to learn how strong he can handle living in misery.

In the grand finale, Whiskers spends a night back at the Black Hart with his fellow townsfolk. But all the strong drinks and catchy songs aren't enough to distract the gunslinger from what's to come. Whiskers must wake up and face his destiny. At high noon, he finds himself out in the middle of town for one last duel. This time against someone he's been running from ever since he wronged: Smokey.
