    On 18 September 1961, Dag Hammarskjöld was en route to negotiate a cease-fire between United Nations Operation in the Congo forces and Katangese troops under Moise Tshombe. His Douglas DC-6 airliner SE-BDY crashed near Ndola, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). Hammarskjöld perished as a result of the crash, as did all of the 15 other passengers.

    Martin Luther King Jr., an American civil rights activist, was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968, at 6:01 p.m. CST. In the moments immediately following Dr. King's assassination, Joseph Louw was the only photographer on the scene. Dr. King's friends gathered around his body and pointed in the direction of the shooter. Police with rifles swarmed around the motel. "As I looked at Dr. King," he said, "I could almost feel the wound myself."

    Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was assassinated at Feb.28, 1986, 11:21 p.m. local time with a single bullet through his body. He was walking home without his security detail together with his wife, Lisbet Palme, after having seen "The Mozart Brothers" (1986) at the cinema Grand.

    Pim Fortuyn, a Dutch politician, was assassinated by Volkert van der Graaf in Hilversum, North Holland on 6 May 2002, nine days before the general election of 2002, in which he was leading the Pim Fortuyn List (LPF). In court at his trial, Van der Graaf, an environmental and animal rights activist, said he murdered Fortuyn to stop him from exploiting Muslims as "scapegoats" and targeting "the weak members of society" in seeking political power.

    It was June 5, 1968 and Senator Bobby Kennedy was running for President of the United States. The people adored him, but the political establishment and big business saw him as a threat. He had championed the poor and exploited, and wanted America out of the Vietnam War so he had made many enemies, among them the Mafia and CIA. As he was celebrating victory in the California Presidential Primary in Los Angeles, he stopped by the kitchens of the Ambassador Hotel to thank the staff. That is where and Arab immigrant, Sirhan Sirhan, shot him down.
