Jesuíta Barbosa in Latin Blood: The Ballad of Ney Matogrosso (2025)

Trivia

Latin Blood: The Ballad of Ney Matogrosso

Edit
The movie displays briefly one of the greatest controversies surrounding Ney Matogrosso, accused of copying the rock band Kiss. It's actually the other way around. Secos & Molhados was officially formed in 1971, though the band was performing together since the late 60s and was already known for their make-up. KISS came around years later, in 1973.
Despite grossing over 13 million reais on the box office, the movie stayed only 30 days in theaters before streaming on Netflix. This move sparkled controversy surrounding the streaming lobby in Brazil and the pressure made on theaters to favor big blockbuster movies while harming the national movie industry.
For many years Ney neutralized his shows' and records' carbon emissions by maintaining a forest reservation inside the farm he acquired in Rio.
The original title, Homem com H, delves into societal issues regarding the perception of masculinity in Brazil, in contrast with Ney Matogrosso's presentation of self, challenging all those ideas. It also refers to a song he recorded. On Netflix, the title was changed to Latin Blood, referring to a famous Secos & Molhados song performed by Ney Matogrosso in his iconic owl face makeup.
Jesuíta Barbosa, who portrays Ney Matogrosso, uses his own singing voice early in the movie. The chanting on Rosa de Hiroshima is the actor's voice, likely enhanced to resemble that of Ney Matogrosso, in a similar way the movie Maria enhances Angelina Jolie's voice to resemble that of Maria Callas.
