Phu discovers a lie from Cirrus, but forgiving him is not the only obstacle. Cirrus' mother controls his destiny: she will decide his job and marriage after he graduates. Until then, he has a false freedom.
Once Phu learns the truth, can he forgive Cirrus for the deception. And even if he could, Cirrus's life after graduation belongs to his mother who treats him like property. He is only afforded freedom until then. Afterwards, she decides where he should work and whom he should marry.
