Originally Vinnie Jones was going to play a bad guy who only appeared in three scenes, but he loved the script and really warmed to the family man character of Ray, so ended up in the lead role instead.

Filmed entirely on location in the Mumbles and Crofty areas of Swansea, the Pwll area of Llanelli and the Brackla area of Bridgend in South Wales.
When Ray Brookes enters the room where the rest of the family are having breakfast he is carrying a folded newspaper. On the back page a partial headline is clearly visible: 'Chelsea Join..........'. Vinnie Jones joined Chelsea Football Club in August 1991, making 52 appearances and scoring 7 goals before leaving in September 1992.
