Damn, this is the most pleasant anime I've ever watched - really pleasant. I haven't come across anything quite like it. It's calm, soothing, kind, warm, touching, and heartfelt. At times it feels a little bittersweet, maybe even sad, but in a good way. There are also plenty of funny moments that lift your mood.
What I especially love is how much attention is given to the things that hold real value in Japanese culture. The way they show the seasons, the changing of seasons - which is seen a bit differently there than how we're used to - their traditions, customs, standards of behavior, and the philosophical teachings passed down from generation to generation. Just the idea of ikigai alone says so much, not to mention everything else.
The art style is beautiful, at least to me. The themes are so relevant and relatable - about the simple, human things. Watching it feels like taking a break from all the daily hustle; during those moments I feel completely safe, detached from all the "worldly problems." Just pure rest, here and now.
The original voice acting is lovely, too. The interactions between the characters are heartwarming, and honestly, everything about it makes me happy. I'm pretty sure I'll rewatch it more than once in the future.
P. S.
As far as I understand, the anime features a raccoon dog (tanuki or mangut). It's strange that the veterinarian didn't identify the species of this animal.
