This series can best be described as an intense melodrama devoid of Sex , Nudity and Violence while trying to appeal to an adult audience with a complex melodramatic storyline - it tried to do too much while attempting to appeal to an American Audience who loves violence ( Europe isn't crazy about violence ) , but believes sex must happen in a dark room with your clothes on - hence censored public TV - my point is that this very good melodrama was in search of an
audience - Technically the intricacies of the story were difficult to follow , I hate flashbacks but in this case were necessary - I gave this series a generous 7 because I thought it was well done - it was entertaining but not fun and didn't leave me with a good feeling until the very end - If you are going to make an adult melodrama - include some adult realism to make it believable.
Beyond bad . Very bad writing. Pretentious acting . Stereotypical character . The writers most importantly think they are creating a masterpiece. I really don't know how can they come with such nonsense? And most importantly how can an actress of the calibre of Adjani accept this role? They must have paid a lot for this.
This French series, full of soapy plot twists surrounding the death of a family patriarch, is well-shot and it's a very good choice for some hours of escapism, if you like fast-moving crime and mystery stories. (I suggest listening to the original, subtitled.) The suspense is handled well throughout. French film icon Isabelle Adjani is excellent as the cold matriarch, at times adding doses of camp humor. Newcomer Ava Baya holds her own as the lead, Guillaume Goix supplies some male eye candy and the rest of the acting is fine. Despite its sunny summer setting this series sticks to the darkness of the storylines and the characters up to the very end. It's not profound, but neither are most crime and mystery shows.
Soleil Noir is a tense and intriguing French series that blends elements of drama, mystery, and crime. It has a dark, gripping atmosphere that keeps you on edge throughout. The storyline unfolds gradually, building suspense with each episode, and the pacing is just right for fans of psychological thrillers. The acting is solid, with characters that feel realistic and emotionally complex. While it may not be widely known, it's a hidden gem for those who enjoy European crime dramas with a moody, cinematic style. I'd rate it around 7.5 out of 10 - definitely worth watching if you're into tense, slow-burning thrillers."
This series is not good.
The writing is abysmal.
The story it is something between soap opera, rich family issues and a crime mystery and it fails in everything.
Character's actions do not make any sense and the fact we barely know anything about them doesn't help either.
The mystery is stupid, the plot is confusing and nothing is well executed.
I got who was the murderer almost immediately (verified by reading spoilers) and I have the feeling none of the viewers was shocked with the revelation.
Acting is not good either, even if most of the cast is stellar. But can you blame the actors when they had to perform with such a weak material? It was quite embarrassing watching Adjani trying to seriously say such stupid lines. I hope the salary was worth it.
I stopped watching in the middle of episode 3. I could not care less about these people.
I do not even recommend it for summer light watching.
Just do not bother.
