Happily Ever After

This show is so poorly written and the acting has become so over the top, that I'm going to stop watching. It complete ruins all my good SATC memories. All characters are completely losing it and are nothing like their old selves. Aidan has become a babbling nuisance, Charlotte has become a squealing little mouse on stiletto's that would cause anyone vertigo. Carrie is a b*tch to everyone but forgives Aidan for sleeping with his wife 'just like that'. And Miranda has become an alcoholic lesbian with a knack to find the most annoying girlfriends on the planet. It literally hurts a lot to watch this.

With the ott Charlotte vertigo thing, we've arrived at physical comedy now. Will the next episode have laugh tracks? This is just uncomfortable. Of course it's fiction, but fiction that is supposed to portray real, relatable people. To be fair, with a few small disappointments, Samantha has always been the most relatable for me so I knew that AJLT would always feel a bit flat to my taste, but this is just bad. I think Kim Cattrall can safely watch this episode and think: "I'm glad I didn't stoop this low." The characters have become caricatures and even the small throwbacks the original series feel too deliberate, too forced, down to Aidan's "Mmmm" which used to annoy Carrie (would annoy me too, along with his protruding lower jaw). Miranda throwing away a bottle is not only immature and rude, but the way it was done, with the hand and arm gestures, is also so inauthentically ott. And the box ticking (gay, trans, black, pronouns, etc.) is just too much, that too feels inauthentic. They seem to think they're actually tackling real life issues, they keep bragging about that whenever I see a snippet of an interview or trailer, but if this is what they think real life is, the whole crew might need to go on a bit of tour. Let's make one of the characters permanently disabled and see how true to life they tackle that. Then we'll talk.

Okay, I've reviewed the series before and defended it on the grounds that you have to take it for what it is, but I need to get some things off my chest now. In Sex and the City, Charlotte was a delicate and vulnerable person, with a set of values that could feel... old-fashioned. But her inner strength would emerge when needed, and she showed courage, loyalty, and resilience. Carrie has always been scatterbrained, insecure, and eager to live up to an image that makes her feel worthy. She struggled with honesty and sometimes came across as fake. But she also had a heart of gold, was smart, funny, and incredibly likeable. Miranda had great integrity, was intelligent, and funny in a dry way-arguably the funniest of them all-and she didn't take crap from anyone.

I have to agree with many of the other reviewers when it comes to character development. Charlotte has turned into a rather silly figure who seems to have lost all depth. Miranda has lost all integrity. Carrie is the only one who still feels more or less like herself from SATC. And that's often how it is-you don't really change that much just because you age, something younger people seem to believe. Even when you're older, you still want to lie in bed all day with your lover, wear stylish clothes and high heels, joke about things, and have fun in general! You'll see for yourselves that not much changes in terms of desire and zest for life just because you get older.

As for Carrie, maybe we would've hoped that over the years she'd become a bit more secure in herself and retained more of her quick wit. When it comes to Charlotte and Miranda, they've essentially been rewritten into entirely new characters. I don't really care about the new sidekicks-they can be however they want-but to me, Seema is the only one who actually adds something to the show... But I'll keep watching as long as I get glimpses of SATC.

There is just nothing, absolutely nothing, in this episode, except for boring sex, overwhelming amounts of sexual innuendos and extremely bad plot twists. I have nothing against sex scene in dramas, but this is like something written by a 11-year old. And I bet this episode is not Samantha approved, even though the episode really tries to do some weird Samantha tribute or rerun.

Directing is bad, plot twists are even worse (and no, the so called funny twists are not funny!) and the main cast seem confused about where the story is evolving. How low can this series go in one episode?

Let's hope this was a single one-off.
