To paraphrase a famous line from an old political debate--I've seen Carrie, I love Carrie, and Some Kind of Hate is no Carrie.

Some Kind of Hate is perfectly hateful, just not entertaining.

Like so much teen-targeting modern horror, it opts for dull angsty brooding over the very sort of grim-and-gruesome sleaziness that might have made its premise interesting.

Despite all the mayhem, Mortimer never whips up any real sense of dread or tension.

It fails to deliver a thrill — not even a shiver, except of revulsion — rendering all that slasher gore downright anemic.
