Circles of Deceit
At this point in his career Dennis waterman could do no wrong after a long and successful run starring alongside George Cole in the popular 1980s comedy drama ' Minder', he left the role after showing signs of age as he was approaching his forties as the 1980s drew to a close he needed a new challenge.
In Circles of deceit, he plays John Neil a special forces operative who has come out of retirement after a tragic incident in which his family were the victims of planned attack by the Ira.
After coming out of seclusion he renters the service and Is tasked with investigating a proposed arms deal orchestrated by a criminal family with ties to the I. R. A.
After he is posed a mission by his former chief of staff at the secret service.
Circles of deceit ran for four episodes from 1993-1996. The performances are excellent Dennis waterman quickly dispenses the hardman image of his Minder and Sweeney days and it's refreshing to see him show a different side to himself as as actor and he is ably supported by a whole host of fine British characters actors from: Derek Jacobi, Dave Hill and Susan Jamison.
Overall: not a great series by any means but compelling and solid anthology drama with good storytelling and decent stunt work goes off the rails slightly at the end although it held my attention for most of the time.
