This was the second collaboration of directors Erik Hjelvik, Per-Ingvar Tomren and actor Morten Salthammer.
For the wood shop massacre scene they got 10 gallons of blood and a lot of pigs' intestines from the local slaughterhouse, leaving the classroom as a smelly mess and almost ruining a lot of the school's power tools.
Because the pigs' bowels were empty when the filmmakers received them from the slaughterhouse, they had to fill them using chocolate mouse. This project produced a peculiar smell, that made director Erik Hjelvik throw up.
The production was almost stopped when cameraman, Per-Ingvar Tomren lost their only camera into some cake batter he was filming. Fortunately only the microphone was ruined, but the camera still worked.
"School of the Dead" was a school project started by Erik Hjelvik and Per-Ingvar Tomren, who was working as a teacher at the time.
