Cinderella Closet

I stumbled across this on Netflix and I like the occasional romantic comedy/drama. I probably shouldn't be surprised that manga (which this is based on - and I haven't read) has such depth and diversity but I thought Japan was more conservative (so I was pleasantly surprised...and that exposes my lack of education).

However the lead roles were sweetly acted and I was always "rooting for them" to do well - and they came from vastly different perspectives: a "country girl" coming to the big city after a bit of a sheltered life - and someone expecting judgement at every turn and mostly just getting love and appreciation.

The episodes are short - so much that when I watched them as they came out weekly (not a binge watch unusually) I was both happy to see them come up in my queue...and disappointed the episodes finished so fast. But consistently from start to finish (well, maybe there will be another series - I only know about one and maybe the source material has more?) it was a lovely watch.

If you're after a nice break from the world - that makes you smile - this is it. No spoilers there but it is a mostly stress free watch too.

I love the plot of this series, but the acting needs work, specifically with the lead actress. This was too cartoonic, it's hard to take some characters specifically the leading protagonists. I doubt it's normal to scream and squeal like an anime character in Japan unless it's cosplay. The lead Actor is actually pretty good, his acting is believable but it doesnt suit well with the leading female and their love story. I Honestly love the concept but this series could uncover more complexities of their relationship than just us viewing a 20 ep glance of it. Overall this is fun to watch, but I think a story with this premise doesn't have to be so 2 dimensional.
