I got a chance to watch this film last week and decided I'd write a little review here. Don't really review things but I figured maybe it's time to start support the film I find that I like since Hollywood has been oh so disappointing of late. CULT OF THE VAMPIRE is a independent film with no famous stars but it is potent and powerful in its message of Love. I think the lesbian girlfriend angles and the music world really define this film in a real and modern way. It's been done before; Vampires as rock stars, but not as good as in CULT OF THE VAMPIRE. These songs are way better than any music soundtrack I have come across. Sadly I can't seem to find this artist Cat Tasso other them one song on Itunes "I Burn" which I did buy. Hopefully she will release the other tunes for the world to enjoy. The music played an integral part in the story and the helped create the vibe, it really made the whole film work. As far as the cast, I though the leads were great. Iva Stelmak and Megan Porter were perfectly cast and had a chemistry that made the relationship feel real. I think the art direction was great. The cinematography was amazing at times but not always. The story sucked me in and before I knew it, the film ended. I wanted it to go on. Maybe a tad short in length but for me it's a tell tale sign of good filmmaking when it flies. I hate sequels but I think this film could go somewhere and tell a new story and if it does I hope they use the same cast. This is a very good film. 8 stars from me!
Cult of the Vampire is a creative and refreshing tale that weaves an engaging story of love and music. Great acting from the leads; Iva Stelmak absolutely kills it as Xandra and Megan Porter who plays Camille, her metamorphosis is maybe the best I've seen in vampire films. The story is unique and engaging, filmed in Paris and Los Angeles and balanced by an amazing music soundtrack that carries you through this film. The film could have been longer and and the end could have been drawn out a bit more, but I understand many Indie film stay around 80 minutes. It's refreshing to see a female led story and production hit so many positive notes, risky for any filmmaker in the underground of our male dominated Hollywood.
It's funny how you come across entertainment today. In the old days we would go to the theater and watch what we thought from the movie posters to be our best choice. Sometime the posters were better than the movie, sometime not. Lately all the media hype and trailers talk up and push entertainment to us and I have to admit, I think the trailers are rubbish. They just tell the story in 90 seconds and show everything they can to suck you in. Cult of the Vampire doesn't have a "Hollywood" trailer. It is a teaser trailer that shows a few scenes and for me that made me want to dish out the rental fee to watch it and I am glad I did. I rated it 8 stars because it won me over in many ways... a no "Star" cast that was powerful, the music was better than big Hollywood can ever do and the story was refreshingly unique and the naturalness of the subject matter was key for me to like a modern Vampire film. They made it real, believable and great entertainment.
Do you like Beautiful Vampires and Great Music? If so this one is for you! "Great Indie Vampire flick! The lead actress Iva Stelmak was stunning in the lead role as Xandra. The casting for this movie was right on spot! The soundtrack was great and flowed accented and complimented the film. the story line grabs you and keeps you interested, generally speaking most vampire movies are pretty predictable. This one was not. Even though it has a lot of new faces this movie is a great surprise. Definitely worth watching!
I enjoyed this story of rock'n'roll and love called CULT OF THE VAMPIRE. Iva Stelmak who stars as Xandra makes this movie special. She has that charisma so few actors/ actresses have today. I looked her up on IMDb and see she hasn't been in much. Hollywood needs to call her and get her into some of their big budget films. Forget Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway and the rest Hollywood's chosen. I want to see Iva Stelmak in more films. I'm not the only one here seeing her star power!
