Amateur Film Americana at it's Best

In 2013 Andrew Penta died while serving as a private contractor with a large security firm in Kabul, Afghanistan. American Son, a 2014 Kickstarter grad film project written and co-directed by his cousin, New Jersey cinematographer Daniel James Inzitari is a sensitive and remarkably poignant portrayal of the events occurring after Andrew's death. In this short film the director delicately reveals how American military families are tragically effected after the often feared 'knock on the door'. The heartbreaking portrayal of the father by actor Doug Willen will leave many viewers in tears as they play witness to the recovery of the life of a father struggling to come to terms with the sudden and inexplicable death of his oldest son.

The flag on the wall in the bedroom scene is a family heirloom that served as the burial flag for Andrew Penta, the inspiration for this film. It was also the burial flag for his grandfather as well as the military retirement flag for his father.
