Dream Writers (2014)

FAQ

Dream Writers

Scientists began using hypnotism and serums in the 15th century to direct the subconscious. Continued development led to the creation of Project L.U.C.I.D. in 1945 and the first dream portal in 1976.

Following the aftermath of WWII, Project L.U.C.I.D. was launched to oversee the use of subconscious stimulus to help to help shape high-potential individuals.

No. Dreamers are selected based on a complex matrix that criteria that assesses long term potential, most of which is classified even from dream writers.

There isn't a "type". Dreamers can end up being world leaders, movie stars, business moguls, or, in some cases, complete failures.

No. L.U.C.I.D. tries to maximize their dreamer's potential, but doesn't know the dreamer's destiny.

Everyone has the ability to dream, but only selected individuals are groomed by L.U.C.I.D.

Project L.U.C.I.D. is classified above Top Secret. Only employees and a small oversight committee are aware of the dream writing process.

L.U.C.I.D. employees not only live a secret life, they are also stripped of their ability to dream. Writers work through the night, and through the invention of sleep chambers they are able to accelerate REM sleep for a relatively normal life during the day.

As dreamers fall asleep, teams proceed to their assigned dream portal. They review the dreamer's daily report, and upon entering stage two of the sleep cycle, all conversation in the portal is transmitted to the dreamer's subconscious. The brain processes the information and crafts a dream around the ideas generated by the writers.

Writers target changes in five areas: motivation, ego, fear, physical state, and morality. Some dreams directly initiate change, whereas others try to prepare the dreamer for potential future events.

Writers can always load archived dreams, or they can choose not to write a dream, but doing so risks losing progress with their dreamer.

Daily dream reports are not available until just before a writing session begins. Also, the disjointed flow of an improvised dream stimulates the subconscious more than a pre-scripted narrative.

It's highly discouraged, due to the increased risk of mental disorder, but teams can transmit information at any point while inside their portal. This explains day dreaming and other random thoughts.

Dreamers have a baseline optimization score when their term begins. Teams are evaluated on how they adjust characteristic levels to maximize this score.

Poorly structured dream sequences can have serious consequences for the dreamer and the team. Teams can be downgraded, put on probation, and even terminated, while dreamers can lose potential, develop disorders, and even die.
