Bel Powley and Douglas Booth are married and there were quite a few celebs in attendance at the wedding!

The 31-year-old The Morning Show actress and the 31-year-old The Dirt actor met on the set of the 2016 movie Mary Shelley and have been together ever since.

The couple got engaged in July 2021 and then tied the knot on October 28 in London, England.

The wedding took place at Michelin Green Star restaurant Petersham Nurseries. Bel told Vogue, “Petersham is a beautiful venue, and we fell in love with the chic but incredibly relaxed vibe there. As it’s a nursery, it is filled with beautiful natural greenery, plants, and flowers. We loved the idea of the wedding feeling glamorous and chic but grounded by the fact that everyone’s heels were in the mud!”

For the wedding, Bel wore a Miu Miu dress.

Exclusive: Elle Fanning (The Great) is set to star alongside Timothée Chalamet and Monica Barbaro in A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic that two-time Oscar nominee James Mangold is directing for Searchlight Pictures.

The film heading into production in New York this summer watches as a young Dylan (Chalamet) shakes up the music world in 1965, as he pivots to performing with an electric guitar for the first time. Fanning will play the role of Dylan’s early ’60s love interest, university student and artist Sylvie Russo.

Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York) wrote the script, with Mangold handling revisions. Dylan’s longtime manager Jeff Rosen will produce alongside Veritas Entertainment Group’s Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer and Peter Jaysen, Automatik’s Fred Berger, The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman, and Mangold. Exec producers include Dylan, as well as Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Andrew Rona.

Fulwell 73 have teamed with Rose Pictures (“Kill Your Darlings”) to co-produce a feature about “Frankenstein” author Mary Shelley, Variety has learned exclusively.

Titled “Mary’s Monster,” it follows Shelley as she struggles to complete her gothic masterpiece, which was published in 1818.

Farren Blackburn will direct the feature from a screenplay by Deborah Baxtrom (“Living With Frankenstein”). The logline reads, “Terrified of giving voice to the darkness of her subconscious mind, Mary Shelley locks into a dangerous battle with her own ‘inner monster’ as she struggles to write her seminal science fiction novel, ‘Frankenstein.'”

The 204-year-old book, considered by experts to be the world’s first science fiction novel, has inspired countless film, television and theatrical adaptations. MRC Film has launched Landline Pictures, a new label targeting audiences over 50. Veteran producer Amy Baer has been tapped to lead the new venture.

According to a release announcing the news, Landline Pictures “will focus on uplifting and entertaining stories that are about and targeting the over 50 demographic, yet commercial and conceptual enough to cross over to a broader audience.”

Baer, who will report to MRC Film Co-Presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman, will oversee Landline Pictures’ creative and strategic agenda and serve in a producer capacity on all the label’s projects, with the goal to generate multiple films per year for both theatrical and streaming distribution.

“Amy is a total pro’s pro and we are proud to be partnered with her on this venture. There is a huge opportunity to make humorous and thoughtful movies for this underserved audience,” Adler and Golfman said, announcing the new venture and Baer’s appointment.

In a year that presents the opportunity for new and diverse voices in the awards race, another one has been added to the mix for best original score. Variety has learned exclusively that neo-classical composer Amelia Warner will helm the music for John Patrick Shanley’s “Wild Mountain Thyme” starring Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan.

Best known for her work on Haifaa al-Mansour’s “Mary Shelley” in 2018, Warner has dabbled both in music and acting. With roles in “Quills,” “Aeon Flux” and “Winter Passing,” this film marks just her third film composition. Warner was named the breakthrough composer of the year at the 2019 International Film Music Critics Awards.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming to the streaming service in July.

Haifaa Al-Mansour, Saudi Arabia’s first female filmmaker, is adapting the popular young adult novel “The Selection” into a Netflix film.

“The Selection,” written by Kiera Cass, centers on America Singer, a young girl in a dystopian future where she and dozens of other women are relocated to a palace and compete for a prince’s affections. The novel was a critical success that spawned four spin-offs.

Saudi Arabian director Haifaa Al-Mansour’s “The Perfect Candidate,” a comedic drama about a young female physician who maneuvers through her conservative, male-dominated society to run in municipal elections, will be the first film supported by the Arab kingdom’s new national film organization, the Saudi Film Council.

“Candidate” will be produced by the director’s own Al Mansour Productions in Saudi Arabia and by Gerhard Meixner and Roman Paul’s Berlin-based Razor Film Produktion. They have described the film as a somewhat ironic look at the new developments in Saudi Arabia caused by women being allowed to contest local elections.

The annual Toronto International Film Festival, our personal favorite, is just two months away. Today they held a press conference to announce the first batch of films from their special presentations and gala sections (i.e. the premieres of multiple kinds, be it world premiere, international premiere, canadian premiere or whatnot).

Earlier today, the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival unveiled its lineup, bringing to the forefront a number of potential Academy Award contenders for this year. Toronto often launches a fair amount of awards players into the mix, so the expectation is that the same will be the case here. Tiff has quite the slate planned, with more to come, as this was just the first wave. Everything announced so far will be at the end of this piece, but first I do want to call out some of the possible prestige projects already set for the fest. From there, we’ll move on to the complete list. You’ll see the lineup below, but first, a quick mention of some of the potentially Oscar friendly titles in the mix. The annual cavalcade of cinematic joy, otherwise known as the Toronto International Film Festival (or simply "Toronto 2017," in our headline parlance) has released its first wave of programming. The gala titles (14) and special presentations (33) lead the way. The Toronto International Film Festival is, as always, bringing a healthy mix of films to Canada this fall, but there are two biopics worth keeping an eye on.

First up is “I, Tonya” which finds Margot Robbie playing disgraced Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding. Craig Gillespie (“Lars and The Real Girl,” “Fright Night,” “Their Finest Hours”) directs a cast that includes Sebastian Stan as Jeff Gilloly and Caitlin Carver as Nancy Kerrigan.

Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour (above) starring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill, Deniz Gamze Ergüven’s Mustang follow-up Kings, and Darren Aronofsky’s mother! with Jenifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem are among the initial wave of Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) picks announced on Tuesday.

Toronto promgrammers updated the premiere status of each film announced in Galas and Special Presentations on Tuesday morning. Darkest Hour is a Canadian premiere, suggesting Telluride and possibly Venice berths, while mother! is a North American premiere, which indicates a world premiere slot in Venice.

Even though Toronto International Film Festival have reduced their lineup by around 20% when compared to past years, there’s no shortage of high-profile premieres and potential discoveries. Ahead of the festival, which runs from September 7 through 17, they’ve now unveiled the first look at their lineup, including Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, Darren Aronofsky’s mother!, Alexander Payne’s Downsizing, George Clooney’s Suburbicon, Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird (opening the festival), Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour, and many more.

There’s also past festival favorites, including Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name, Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winner The Square, The Rider, Mudbound, and more. This year’s Toronto International Film Festival still is over a month from kicking off, but the starry annual event is pulling out zero stops when it comes to its first official slate announcement. The festival will close out with Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledo’s “C’est la vie!,” and the Special Presentations section will open with Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut, “Lady Bird,” and close with Amr Salama’s “Sheikh Jackson.”

Today’s first glimpse of this year’s programing include a slew of 2017’s most anticipated features, including Guillermo del Toro’s adult fairy tale “The Shape of Water,” Alexander Payne’s Matt Damon-starring comedy “Downsizing,” Darren Aronofsky’s secretive “mother!,” George Clooney’s reportedly uber-violent “Suburbicon,” and Martin McDonagh’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

And that is just the tip of a very big iceberg, one that today includes the announcement of both Gala and Special Presentations titles.

Buyers expressed optimism over a handful of titles amid London security concerns.

Despite at least one distributor cancelling their trip to the 13th edition of The Film London London Screenings (19-22 June) due to the recent UK terror attacks, organisers and buyers expressed optimism about this year’s lineup.

In the sweltering heat of one of the hottest months of June in recent memory, distributors watched films represented by British sales agents in the air-conditioned sanctuary of the BFI Southbank.

Around 150 delegates (roughly 125 international buyers and a number of UK distributors, festival directors and programmers) attended the event, which showcases completed films and works in progress.

Alongside the usual smattering of European buyers, there were several Us distributors in attendance, among then Magnolia, The Weinstein Company, AMC, Film Movement and Screen Media. Buyers also came from as far afield as Taiwan and Brazil.

“3 Generations” has courted controversy since its production, with the film getting negative initial buzz after hiring cisgender actress Elle Fanning to play a transgender teen boy in a lead role. Furthermore, the Weinstein Company recently drummed up some attention of their own after publicly protesting the film’s R rating. Now the trailer has arrived to show audiences a first look at the actual footage.

The NYC-centric film, which also stars Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon, follows the three generations of women as they live under the same roof and help Fanning’s Ray deal with growing up different. Sarandon plays Ray’s lesbian grandmother trying to understand the situation, while Watts is his single mother, doing the best she can to help her son.

With just over a month to go before the line-up for this year’s Cannes Film Festival is unveiled in Paris, Croisette predictions and wish lists are hitting the web thick and fast.

Screen’s network of correspondents and contributors around the world have been putting out feelers to get a sense of what might or might not make it to the Palais du Cinéma or one of the parallel sections.

Just like the Oscars, this year’s festival is likely to unfold amid a politically-charged atmosphere. After a major last year with 20th Century Women and The Neon Demon, Elle Fanning‘s streak looks to continue into 2017. This week we got the fantastic first trailer for The Beguiled and she’s also leading How to Talk to Girls at Parties, but that’s not all. The actress is portraying the legendary author Mary Shelley in a new drama and the first look has arrived.

Aptly titled Mary Shelley (previously going by A Storm in the Stars), the biopic about the Frankenstein author comes from director Haifaa al-Mansour, who made a strong impression with her debut Wadjda just a few years back. Also starring Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, Maisie Williams, Joanne Froggatt and Tom Sturridge, the film depicts the early years of the author as she begins a relationship with poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.

With footage screening at Berlinale for buyers, hopefully this gets picked up soon.

The Berlin Film Festival kicks off today which means in addition to the dozens of films unspooling, the European Film Market is going strong as the next wave of new movies look to find homes. And part of getting the buzz going is in releasing the first images from new projects, and we’ll watch anything with the immensely talented Elle Fanning.

Four films, including the latest projects from Amma Asante, Mike Leigh and Lynne Ramsay, were granted more than £1m in production funding in 2016.

Four films received more than £1m in production funding through the BFI Film Fund this year, with Mike Leigh’s anticipated Peterloo drama leading the way with an award of £1.46m.

The BFI backed around 30 projects with production funding up until December 15. Since launching the BFI Film Fund six years ago, the organisation’s biggest single production grant remains the £2m awarded to Aardman and Studiocanal’s animation Early Man in 2015.
