This movie was Cinemark's secret movie this month. I was pleasantly surprised to view it since being a "secret movie", you can get a good major movie like "Jurassic Park: Rebirth" or a dud like "The Legend of Ochi". Anyway, this movie was very entertaining and funny. All of the cast are very good, especially the three leads (Miles Teller, Callum Turner, and Elizabeth Olsen). I won't rehash the plot as you can read the synopsis, but I can say the writing is excellent, with many LOL lines. Direction by David Freyne is fine and the cinematography (especially in the mountain scenes) is fantastic. Production values are good as well. So, I would highly recommend you see this when it premieres for general audiences. 8/10.
I saw this film at the AFI Film Festival in Hollywood. A Romanian film about a bailiff (more similar to a Sheriff in US terms), who is forced to evict a squatter from a building, with disastrous results for them both. The film is initially intriguing but then it degenerates into sophomoric philosophizing by the bailiff and the supporting cast. Not recommended. 5/10.
I saw this film at the AFI Film Festival in Hollywood. From Slovakia, this drama takes place in the USSR of 1937, when a young prosecutor tries to investigate abuse of a loyal party member, who has been unfairly imprisoned. Period recreations of the USSR at the time are very good along with atmosphere of despair that pervaded Russia that the time. A tense drama, but with a predictable conclusion that I saw coming from a mile away. 6/10.
