  • Great Movie: Integration of computers and nostalgia is genius

Totally fascinating movie. When I first sat down to watch it, I was concerned it would mess with my memory of the old classic cartoon. Nothing could be further from the truth! While highly computerized, there was also that campy atmosphere. At times, it felt like a movie about the 60's with all the bright colors and interesting clothing patterns. Even the camera shots of the villain racers and the way the villain racers were portrayed gave homage to 60's/70's action flicks...not to mention some of the fight scenes which were sort of James Bondish.

The story was also great. Yea, I am one of those cliché people, I guess, but I loved the messages about standing up for what you believe in, not giving up, doing what is right, etc.

I loved the show as a child and was determined to see this movie while in my zone (that means alone). I snuck off from work early while the hubby was still at work and while the children were in school and at the sitters to get my full enjoyment of the movie.

  • Entertaining and Refreshing

This movie was quite refreshing. As one other poster stated, it had some formulas in it, but did not rely on them. I love romantic comedies, and to see one that really has not been done before, was truly engaging. To me, "Guess Who" was not really like "Something New" because the two lead characters were already involved from the beginning. But SN shows the the process of a black female and white male falling in love.

I don't know what was with some of the earlier posters who described this moving as written by and portraying self hating black women. Wow, those comments totally missed the mark. There were parts in the movie that actually speak to this kind of thinking..i.e. Kenya's father stating that people get up tight about interracial dating like they are some pure race that should not be diluted, when the fact of the matter is, we are all mixed. Also one of the negative postings mentioned how when Kenya was with Mark (the Blair Underwood character), she had the perfect man who was proud of his race, culture, etc...Did this person miss the part in the movie where Mark saw the picture of her with the "long hair" and suggested she "grow it out" when in fact, he was admiring a long, straight, fake weave? But earlier in the movie Brian (Simon Baker's character) wanted to see what she looked like without the weave and was even more attracted to her without it. Ironic, huh.

At the end of the day, we are all responsible for our happiness, and if that, in part, means being attracted to someone of a different race, regardless of the reason, so be it. Someone's true pride in their race should not cause them to be disturbed by those who choose to date outside of it. Even though interracial relationships are on the rise, there are still plenty of folks who choose to date within their own race anyway, so why all the dramatic lambasting?

  • Pee Wee's Play House, Meet Wiggles, Meet Bay City Rollers...

...those are my observations and I like the combination! Catchy tunes, good lessons, fun, bright and colorful. My daughter seems to like them, and seems to get a big kick when I get up and dance to the opening theme and "Get on the Bus" song. My husband has yet to be sold though, but there is nothing wrong with the show. If the biggest complaint one has is that it borrows from other shows, then it is doing something right. For those of you old enough, am I the only one who is reminded of the Bay City Rollers when looking at Moe? And what about the talking Moose, talking marionette heads? Anyone else get nostalgia for Pee Wee Herman? I am reminded of the Wiggles by the theme of always looking for Moe in the beginning...similar to waking up Jeff on the Wiggles on every episode.
