This is absolutely an astoundingly good documentary. The story it tells is incredible. If this was a script for Hollywood movie, it would be dismissed as being unrealistic and cheesy. But what happens has to be seen to be believed (even though I lived through that NASCAR era as a superfan, I did not understand the depth of the drama and all of that parts that when assembled paint an incredible tragedy, yet also the human spirit and ability to triumph and continue life's struggles in the face of complete and total adversity).
I did also recently watch the 4-part Earnhardt documentary from Ron Howard, and of course that guy does not make bad content ... it is also worth a watch, and goes into more background, detail, and focus about Dale's family. Highly recommended. But for a single documentary in a 2 hour timeframe, you will not find a more riveting and fascinating story, period.
A+, and while the word NASCAR probably automatically disqualifies this film from being Academy Award eligible, I proclaim this as the People's Choice winner by a mile. GO WATCH IT!

I love all zombie movies. I love The Last of Us. I'm in on anything that looks at the "what if" scenarios if society collapses.
Well, this is one of if not THE original "all humans die off" stories that helped launch this whole genre. Yes, the book that this is adapted from was written in 1949. This series of course has been updated to modern times, but the core elements of the story are faithfully reproduced.
I love that this is a limited series. Six episodes is a perfect length ... didn't need 70 episodes and 5 spinoff shows to tell this story. The story moves along at a very rapid pace, with nice character development. The digital artistry looks great to me; there are plenty of wide-show scenes depicting the largely abandoned earth as time progresses. The story is realistic and a nice look at what might actually happen. No, there aren't zombies or over-the-top baseball-bat-wielding bad guys ... just normal people (some good, some not) like we have all encountered in everyday life. To me that is refreshing; I enjoy the comic-book-esque characters sometimes, but I also appreciated that this was NOT trying to be that.
So if you go in with the right expectations (more important - know what to NOT expect ... this is not an action thriller, although it is thrilling, devastating, and uplifting), you'll be happy. At the current rating I am seeing, this is a criminally underrated show that deserves a solid 9.

This movie popped up on my Hulu recommendations, and seeing it had a great cast and looked visually interesting, I fired it up and gave it a watch. It pulled me in immediately, and I assumed it was just a standard horror movie about a cabin in the woods (nothing wrong with that ... that has been done probably hundreds of times at this point). But it turns out this movie is much more. It kept my interest and was a fun ride from start to finish. No spoilers, but I was very happy with the story and pacing.
But my biggest surprise was when I went to IMDB to see where it was filmed (California / beautiful Sonoma county), I noticed a score under 5. The movies I have enjoyed that are rated this low are incredibly rare. The reverse is not true; there are now dozens of horrible superhero movies that are about as clever and entertaining as watching someone else play a videogame (for me anyway). Perhaps it is a reflection of a lack of maturity of audiences over time, but I feel like this film has a disconnect of the rating with the quality of the film. I'm not saying it is the best thriller in history, but in a sea of mediocrity this one stood out as being decent and certainly quite enjoyable. I for one will continue to watch the writer and director associated with this film as I see talent that translated to onscreen enjoyment that I would love to repeat with future work.
