L.I.E. (2001)
great movie with a broader message
I saw this movie because I noticed it mentioned on Gay-dot-com, I have to go there to find out about gay & lesbian movies because I can't really find out anywhere else. Being gay and living in rural Missouri you don't get much of your culture given to you very easily. And so far most of the g/l movies I've sought out ended up being mediocre or thinly disguised porn. It's great when you find something like this that actually pushes boundaries with great acting and great direction, and without copping out and becoming porn or giving some obvious gay-rights message. I wasn't going to review this until I read Sean Richard McCarthy's review below. I wish I could go on ranting about that, but as this is a review of the movie and not small mindedness. I will just say that I hope with more great gay & lesbian movies like this, and with more boundaries pushed, people will open their minds a little, and make my life a hell of a lot easier.
Storia di ragazzi e di ragazze (1989)
Beautiful film
This is the first foreign film that I saw and enjoyed. The country and story are beautiful, the people are... odd, and the direction is great. I would recommend this film to almost anyone.
The Matrix (1999)
WELL worth watching
This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long while. The cast is great, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss both give a superb performance, and Hugo Weaving is very menacing as Agent Smith. The story/plot was a tiny bit hard to follow at times, but not impossible to understand. Excellent and phenomenal special effects... simply, a MUST see.
Werewolf (1995)
Insanely Insipid...
...but well worth watching on MST3K. I had no idea the film was made in 1996, it seemed like a really bad 80's B movie. Please, do not attempt to watch it anywhere but on MST3K.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
I LOVE JAMIE LEE CURTIS
This ending of this movie, has to be, THE BEST ENDING I have ever seen, on ANY movie. I thought Jamie Lee Curtis was great, as she always is, and all the other people in the cast were great too... I don't understand why some people thought it was horrible..or boring, if this movie was boring to you, I think you have some problems that need to be checked out. It had me jumping at every turn.. ie., the scene at the rest stop.. there were a few parts that sort of let me down, but the suspense and JLC made up for it...
i'd give it a 10 out of 10
Mary Reilly (1996)
suspense is overrated
This is my favorite Horror/Drama, it has everything I look for in a good horror movie. It's gothic and mysterious, with the best cast possible. If you want a great horror story put to life, and if you prefer story over shock, this is your movie. Not that this movie doesn't have suspense, it just doesn't have mindless zombies hacking at teenagers..
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
In one word...WOW
To date, this is one of my favorite Horror movies and is my favorite Drama. This is the only movie I have ever seen, that made me want to read the book. Winona Ryder was the best I've ever seen her. I could not take my eyes from the screen, all I can say is *masterpiece*.
out of 10 stars i give it 10+
