The story is about a mother who stops loving her daughter who becomes backward after an automobile accident. Lynn Redgrave as the mother is positively hateful. Miss Gish as the daughter is outstanding. She is married to a retarded man and they have a normal daughter that Redgrave attempts to take away from them. It is heartbreaking. It makes you thankful for being normal after seeing the hardships of being retarded. Redgrave's husband and Gish's daughter are also fine actors. Unfortunately the ending was too happy for what went before. The movie is a dramatic tour-de-force.
