  • The Rise of Blue Beetle

This is a great way to start off Blue Beetle (2023)! The first impression is that it had good jokes that I laughed along with. The whole movie revolves around a comedy-action movie so there was plenty of jokes to go around with. The acting was great with everyone especially Jamie Reyes/Blue Beetle (Xolo Mariduena) making him a likable protagonist. George Lopez playing as Uncle Rudy was my favorite character because he was basically the comedian of the movie. It was glad to see him back on the big screen. The cinematography with the special effects and CGI was good of Blue Beetle himself and there was a lot of blue and purple color schemes going on. It was fresh to see an old DC character getting his own movie. Director Angel Manuel Soto does a great job of portraying Blue Beetle's origin story off to the world. Overall, Blue Beetle is great with its acting, jokes, and action. I would recommend watching it in theaters because I am going for a second viewing!

  • Unpowerful Evil is Aboard

The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) is about a crew of sailors set in the late 1800's. They are headed off to England to visit and drop off Cargo there. Later, they realize that all the cargo they have onboard is not what it seems. There is a powerful evil in the form of Dracula in one of those boxes and escapes. He terrorizes the ship and the crew must survive until they step afoot until England. They must do whatever it takes to kill Dracula and survive the Demeter.

Overall, it was a fun watch of Dracula killing the crewmen one by one. Each kill was so bloody good that I had to count along and keep track of the kill count. The acting was great by everyone to make it feel that it was set in the late 1800's. Clemens (Corey Hawkins) plays the main protagonist role pretty well in this type of movie. The cinematography and special effects is good that it has a Pirates of the Caribbean feel to it, but with horror elements and a roaming Dracula afoot. Director Andre Ovredal does a good job portraying this movie in the Universal Monsters category. The Last Voyage of the Demeter is good with its kills, acting, and cinematography. I would recommend watching it in theaters for a good horror watch!

  • Solid Video Game Adaptation

Gran Turismo (2023) is a about a young adult named Jann Mardenboro (Archie Madewe) playing the video game and hopes he can achieve his dreams to become a professional race car driver. He has an opportunity to show it by being accepted by the Nissan GT invitational to see who will become one. He keeps training until his hard work pays off by fully accomplishing his dream.

Overall, I thought it was a good movie based on a true story! Madewe plays Mardenboro in a good underdog role who never backs down and earns respect by doing the work. Hearing that it came from a young adult's true story made me like the movie even more.

The acting was great by everyone especially as David Harbour playing the hard-hitting coach Jack Salter in a well-received role. The action from cars racing and crashes was fun to watch. The movie as a whole reminded me of Ford Vs. Ferrari (2019) because of the story, races, and the locations on where they drove. Director Neil Blomkamp does a good job of portraying life isn't more than a just video game, but as a career as well. Overall, Gran Turismo is good with its story, acting, and action. I would recommend watching it in theaters for a good action-adventure watch!
