I can usually spot a dud within the first five minutes of watching something. I saw immediately that this was going to at least hold my interest for a while. We watched the whole series in one night and enjoyed it very much. It's a drama about a woman's life as evidenced through a series a flashbacks throughout the film. As the lead character is going through a traumatic and prolonged fight for survival, feelings and memories come back to haunt her and she comes to a fuller understanding of herself. I'm not sure where the bad reviews come from or what they were expecting. A pure survival film? There's plenty of those, this one was a dual layer story. The lead actress, Melissa Barrera was captivating to watch and I hope we hear more from her.
OMG! I've been looking for this movie for years. I don't think it even got a DVD release. I'm watching on YouTube. I saw it first on HBO about the time it was released. It's a cute story about a community of underdogs, two in particular, trying to get by in life. It speaks volumes to anyone who has been dealt a low blow in life. The comedic acting is fist rate and the story, although familiar, is touching. I kind of get the critic reviews. It takes a special personality type to appreciate this kind of movie.
