Had a very promising start, and I enjoyed the interactions between the group of mormons and Christian/Julie.
Towards the end it started getting too big for its boots, trying to tell too many stories and have too many misunderstandings that just get annoying. Leads to a pretty unsatisfying conclusion for a relationship I would otherwise have really supported. Still an enjoyable watch, just really should have been polished imo.
I did enjoy both leads and their actors; even if sometimes stunted with Aaron, I felt his bear-like softness and simple, attractive face did well to portray the character. Similar for Christian and his charm.

This is a truly beautiful movie and I'd recomend watching it immediately. I'd heard really good things but for some reason haven't watched it until now, despite it being out for 18 years now!! I got hit with waves of nostalgia; 2007 is in era of movie I remember well, and it encapsulated all of that in this sun-washed, low-key landscape.
The story is beautiful. I always love when there's a kid involved because it makes it that much more personal and serious, and this kid was really sweet. Heavy and very beautiful themes of family and commitment, and I thought the main character was a really really sweet guy. The kind of guy you don't often see. A good kid, even when he's troubled and figuring himself out. Knows how to apologise and what's truly important.
Adored it in every way!
