The short version. "I have no idea how they can get it so wrong. Just when you think it's as bad as it gets, they go the next step down."
The trailers were good, got me keen (Alien fan since the late 1980s), and the first episode hit a lot of the right notes. The second episode was ok. In terms of a TV show, I gave it a free pass, but as more episodes came out, it only got worse. The biggest mystery to me is that no one, leading up to filming or even during, thought, "Hold up...this is just bad."
The CGI ranges from movie quality to "OMG, get it off screen, that's so bad."
The practical FX are great, but some of them (sadly, the Alien) need to be shot in darker scenes. Not only does it look odd seeing them in daylight, but I am all for the idea that if it doesn't look as good as you want, you can hide it in shadow more.
The acting is all over the place. A few of them nail the roles given, but don't quite succeed.
Characters range from interesting to laughable (take note of the brother, watch how many times he gets his ass kicked by just about everyone/thing)
By far, the worst thing is the story/script. All they had to do was a bunch of odd aliens crash on earth, bad companies want them, bad companies send people, and then have the aliens kill those people off, all but that one anti-hero type. Instead of keeping it simple, they opted for a complex, messy story, with too many characters and /story arcs.

My god, what is it with superhero films these days? They are just so lacklustre.
After the first trailer, I was unimpressed. I was really not keen on seeing the film, but then my son asked, and we also got to see Galactus in the last trailer, so I thought we would go for it. Even if Galactus is cool and the rest sucks, that would be something.
The film looks great; they nail the comic book look, and I cannot really fault it in that regard. Sadly, that's about it. The CGI ranges from passable to excellent, the script is very dumb in parts....but passable. The "female" Silver Surfer was fine; there was a plot point that made the Surfer's gender a necessary story element. The casting just felt off, not terrible, but something did not click.....And worst of all was the utter waste of Galactus.
Going by trailers, it looked like we would finally get some full-on action, but (no real spoiler apart from what he does) what we get is chatty Galactus, "ouch" Galactus, and walking past buildings Galactus....... Oh, and one other Galactus that made it even worse.
I have to say, right up to the Space trip and meeting (trying to keep details low), I was pleasantly surprised, and I did start to get my hopes up. Lesson learned, I guess.

This was not a list of must sees, but I got talked into it and happy I went along.
I like Denis, although we dont see him much these days and I guess because he does not flow the Democrat way, I understand why now. Its a real shame because he is a fine actor and he for the most part he nails regean as well as you can do really (I would have spoken a little slower though)
The film itself is well made, a good cast, and though I knew a bit about Regean, I know more now lol TBH, after the film, I even went back over some stuff on Youtube and wow, he knew how to entertain a crowd, some of his jokes were so good. I also like the fact that he called out BS when he was it and acted upon it.
Anyway, if your on the fence, its worth seeing, more so if you can find a cheaper show time.
