  • Worth the wait!

I gave Lost a pass first time round 20 years ago after watching the first episode.

Forward wind to 2024 and for reasons unknown decided to binge it.

My yardstick for a quality series is The Wire, which for me is the best ever and my favourite.

I thought Lost was truly excellent: yes, there was the odd time ( towards the end) when I had to really concentrate to understand the time shifts. When I did that I thought of Hurley & Miles' hysterical exchange about time travel.

Drawing a lengthy continual series to a conclusion that doesn't rob the viewer who has invested significant time and emotion requires a high level of skill: the directors and writers of Lost nailed it pure and simple.

    We thoroughly enjoyed watching Lost.

On an aside to the series itself what we really enjoyed was seeing so many actors who we weren't aware of in 2004 who went on to be in excellent subsequent series:

Alex: Bosch Ben:,Person of Interest Penny: For all Mankind Daniel: Justified

In summary: if you haven't watched Lost then it's highly recommended! Well worth the self imposed wait.

  • IT'S SO BAD IT'S WORTH THE WATCH!

*** Potential Spoilers*** Ok so I'll never get the time back but life would be awfully dull if all we watched were 9.0 plus programmes or films.

Come everyone, chill a little and accept it for what it is. Yes the first 8 episodes were truly bad but I found myself, quite strangely, enjoying it after that and looking forward to S2.

As soon as mention of the portal to 1988 arose I was fully expecting clichéd references to BTTF and to find a Delorean but there weren't any.

Give it a go people: I can remember struggling to get to S1 E7 of BB and we all know how that turned out for most of us.

I like Natalie Zea and thought she was excellent in Justified ( if you've not seen that then where've you been and Dirty Filthy Rotten Stinking Money or whatever it was called.

But my lasting thought the whole way through, no doubt because of my vintage was that it reminded me of the cartoon show Valley of the Dinosaurs that I watched on a Saturday morning age 7.

  • Disappointingly poor

From the off I've always liked the Hamster.

I respect the concept if the " mid life crisis" rationale is genuine.

There's been countless shows on restoring and selling classics so in that respect this was nothing new.

What continually stuck in my craw were the endless shots of the obviously very comfortable lifestyle RH is accustomed to. The frequency was disproportionate to the subject matter. The apparent lack of business acumen and general nouse seemed, let's say, put on. I appreciate the show is a " journey" and we all hope a successful one but are really to accept that " the planning issues" weren't either anticipated or dealt with a lot quicker. The impression given was that if he hadn't met his landlord when the scene was filmed he'd still be in the workshop twiddling his digits. There were numerous other instances of where credibility and reality appeared hopelessly lost.

He has no bona fide restoring credentials, no commercial credentials and no track record whatsoever so why would anyone genuinely ( and as he asked at the London Concours) be persuaded to swap their existing restorer to an unknown entity. A cynic would think it would only be due to the celebrity factor.

Like I said at the beginning I've always liked the Hamster not just TG but his science shows which my kids both loved and which genuinely helped them with school work but this first episode came over as somewhat wealthy, bored ( albeit self confessed car enthusiast) needing to keep himself in the public eye.

I desperately hope the remaining episodes prove me wrong and I'm forced to eat a large dose of Herefordshire's finest humble pie.
