Ignore the "fans", this series elevates the Resi story material and serves as a semi sequel to the main games. Solid cast, high production values. I was not sold on the pacing, I think the series would have worked better in two halves. But this is easily the best "Resi" has been on screen.
As a huge fan of both book and director my expectations for "Dune" were through the roof and yet, through sheer cinematic force, it exceeded them. Seeing the world and characters brought to life with such craftsmanship was overwhelming to me. I thought it was absolutely stunning. I can't wait to see it again.
Short on running time but not short on ideas, "Blank Shores" wrestles with relatable themes on a scale that is both intimate and far reaching, as we follow grieving Emily (Georgina Campbell) on her quest to find her missing partner, and to a surprising destination.
Hobbled somewhat by the short film format, the small cast works well with economical dialogue. Where "Blank Shores" truly excels is in its production design, editing and atmosphere.
It would be remiss to judge too harshly the lack of detail in the world building. The sci fi technology employed by the characters and its place in the world, for example, go mostly unexplained. But viewed in isolation this is a very precise piece of work and something that could benefit from expansion, should the opportunity arise.
