  • Dull as hell

Boring and formulaic story. The dialogues are plain and very poorly written, whilst the relationships between the main characters lack any kind of chemistry. That makes actually caring for the characters very difficult, and the perfomances do not help either.

The show's popularity that made it cross frontiers with several remakes is a vivid proof of how audiences are so easily trapped with cheap dramas, and it can't get any cheaper than a story about kids with cancer.

With some wit, you could even use this overused plotline to tell an interesting story about growing with a difficult medical condition and learning to overcome these circunstances, however the lack of charisma from the characters can't help but to make this another formulaic story about cancer that is not worth your time. Visiting actual children hospitals would be a better and more gratifying experience than watching this.

  • Mediocre, at best.

You can tell a hundred times that the story told in this movie is interesting and heart-warming. It doesn't matter, as at this point, the thing that really makes a movie shine is the way of how the story is illustrated, as there are many movies out there with an interesting story to tell but a really poor execution. And you can be absolutely sure that these is one of them.

The direction is incredibly undynamic, even for it's 140 minute lenght that just makes you lose the interest on the film more and more as it keeps going. The shots are poor, scriptwriting is so-so and also acting as well, and the worst part is the timing. There are no points in the movie for the stoyry to de-accelerate the pace and develop itself well; for example, there is one scene that the protagonist has a shocking revelation and breaks emotionally, and literally 30 seconds later she's showing how good she is in the piano without even taking a single second to digest what she had just heard a minute ago. And that goes for the rest of the movie.

I'm not gonna talk about the romance. It should be obvious for everyone with two brain cells that it's pretty awful, with a bad development and an incredible lack of chemistry. It's just a tasteless decoration for an attempt of heart-moving story that try harder and harder to raise awareness with an important feminist message for which this bland attempt of movie is not up to par.

The film lasts more than two hours, but it felt eternal as it kept going far away from the 60 minutes, as Antonia has reached her definitive goal and keeps going for more, or more specifically, for nothing. Maybe to praise a character that is too soft and flat to create empathy with the audience or even to impose a bit between the other ones for showing and giving us a little taste of a director's temperament (Please keep your comparisons with Whiplash. It's not worth it.) It's isn't a terrible movie, but it's far, far away from being good, and it couldn't be close to being game-changing even in a hundred million light years

Anyway, everything said about this movie is just much ado about nothing.

    3/10 it's pretty fair.
