Under a Lover's Moon (2021)
Sigh. Terrible.
I know, I know. These sort of movies have a standard story-line. We meet girl and the boy, something goes wrong, blah-blah-blah, happy ending.
And 95% of the time I can like these movies, because they are rather mindless and just what I want to watch after a busy day.
This one however... Barely 5 minutes into the movie and I want to punch the female lead in the face! She's SOOOO annoying!
7 minutes in and I want the boy to RUN for his life and never look back. He does run, at first, but then the idiot goes back to her because he's some masochist or something. Oh, excuse me, I mean because he's so in love with her. (Why? Why? Why?)
She's so incredibly selfish, so self-absorbed that I sincerely cannot understand why he went so out of his way to 'win her back'. She cannot for a second try to see his side, she doesn't WANT to either and her attitude when she finds out what freaked him out is beyond stupid.
It has the usual blah-blah-blah. The ending is barely surprising. I liked the 2 male leads, I liked the sister and her story-line, but the main character... It's girls like her that make you cheer for the serial-killer/monster in certain movies.
Death in Paradise: Beyond the Shining Sea: Part One (2019)
Unexpected ending
I didn't know it would be a 2-part episode (just read that in another review) so I was quite stunned by the end of this episode. I had already thought of the same way of killing, but I couldn't figure out the time-table either, until we got the result.
I sincerely liked this episode, it was the usual fun but with a darker layer and an unpredictable ending. I'm not sure what I want the outcome to be next week (haven't seen any previews yet) Either way will be interesting, I suppose.
Looking forward to the next episode. :)
Lake Placid: Legacy (2018)
Not bad at all, but there was something missing.
The movie wasn't all that bad for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Sure, there's quite some inconsistencies (when isn't there?) but in all the movie was good to watch. Perhaps I went in with the wrong expectations, because I believed it to be somehow like the other "Lake Placid" movies, but this one lacked what the others did have: Humor.
Doesn't mean the movie is bad. The acting is good enough for this kind of movies, it's not too wooden. The CGI isn't as laughable as some others of these kind of movies. The story-line itself is seems to have a sense of logic (often lacking in other movies).
But I missed the FUN, the camp. There was no laughing at the idiot bikini-clad blond bimbo's getting mauled to death. No big-mouthed football-player being shredded. There were no hunters with great one-liners. There wasn't someone remotely Betty White/Cloris Leachman-like...
Triassic World (2018)
Not half bad
It's predictable. Secret facility? Check. "For the greater good"? Check. But greed the biggest motive? Check. Nothing can go wrong? Check. Something goes wrong? Check. Lots of screaming, running, people getting eaten? Check.... Yet this movie is fun enough, because the acting isn't as bad as some of the B-movies I've seen. I actually rooted for a few of them to make it (which doesn't always happen) No, it's not exactly Oscar-material, but for a sad, rainy afternoon with a cup of hot coffee on the couch, it's good enough.
San Andreas Quake (2015)
Not the best, but not the worst either.
So, a scientist finds a way to predict earthquakes rather accurately, but no one will believe her. Check. Family is spread all over. Check. They MUST reunite. Check. In an impossible place. Check. They do all sorts of impossible things and are sometimes EXTREMELY lucky. Check. I knew 10 minutes into the movie who will survive, regardless of what happens. Check.
But I once got passed that, it's quite an entertaining movie. It's definitely not 'the worst' one ever. I've seen worse movies. The characters are sympathetic enough for me to want them to survive. Sometimes characters are so annoying that I just want them to be crushed or die a slow horrible death, so I consider my liking them a plus.
The special effects were... entertaining... let's leave it that. Yes, that hippo-moment had me laughing out loud, but comic relief is good. I've seen better movies, true, but I've also seen worse.
