Can't say it's surprising to see another loud, chaotic (filming, pace, attitude) series about crime that had their beloved mix of gore, sex, and lots of unlikeable characters. The only redeeming thing about this series is that they give equal time and exposure to both male and female perpetrators and victims. The fast-paced format of the show is really irritating, and instead of just describing the events, the people involved and the actual investigations, they resort to the standard sensationalism that defines this as very much 'made in the U. S. A.'. It's tedious and although the crimes themselves are certainly 'interesting' (at least they are international in scope), there was no need to have this frantic pace.

The format of this crime series is what sets it apart from many others of the same genre. You get to see and hear the investigators and others involved in these crimes and realize that it takes determination, experience and often pure luck to solve of them. It's also apparent that not all police/investigators or criminals are possessed of high intelligence. Some of the criminals shown really need to look at other career choices and some of the police need grammar lessons, but at least they have good intentions. A different look at how many crimes are committed on a daily basis in the UK (mainly), and how many resources go into dealing with these. Mostly quite interesting, informative and yet very sad, given how many innocent lives are also affected.

Although I got quite annoyed at the many music inserts during this series and found some parts either tedious, repetitive or just irritating, overall this series is worth watching. Lots of historical information that with hindsight is proving to be very prescient and accurate. It's pretty clear that politicians, financial institutions and those who benefit from them, and the upper class system is still thriving and becoming even more abhorrent. Today's many issues and problems can be traced back to so many events and characters and players who made headlines during the period this series covers. Not a pretty picture and certainly a warning of things to come. Well made generally but also a bit too chaotic at times.
