The original ID is a fun movie to watch. No brainer or plot twists, just pure action/comedy/sci-fi flick and if you have not seen that, you would not understand Resurgence. This sequel tells the life after the invasion on Earth 20years ago, flying vehicles, laser guns universe. Its all make-believe and unrealistic, that is why its sci-fi. Nice effects, good plot, no overacting, characters are likable. So for me, overall its not bad like what the others wrote here. In fact, I kinda look forward to part 3 and I wonder what story Emmerich is in-store for us. Earth attacking the harvesting aliens instead of getting invaded again? I like this very much!
I've seen this movie many times in the past then saw it again recently in Disney. I would say its one of M Knight's best films. Clean cinematography and sound, excellent acting from short list of actors. Mel Gibson and Joaquin just showed how a simple storyline could be more by their acting. Their expressions are just wonderful. Rory and Abigail are great child actors. Additionally I loved how the camera focuses and switch like each dialogue is meaningful, no non-sense, similar to The Village and Sixth Sense. Story-wise this isnt just an alien movie, its about finding your lost faith, family love and strength. A must-watch!
Im a big fan of Aliens and Predator franchises but they should have told us to wear night vision glasses watching this. Story was more about closing out the last AVP film so its a pretty much a predictable storyline, not totally bad. Even the acting wasn't terrible. Its the production and all that rain and darkness that made it so hard to watch. The hydrid Predator-Alien looked actually badass so I would have loved to see their stand-off longer and more clearly.
To insert this film in the Alien/Predator timeline, AVP and AVP Requiem would have been in between the Alien Covenant and Alien (1979), we all know it was David who created the Xenomorphs. Where did the temple in AVP come from then? In Prey, we know the Predators have existed longer than Earth, and their technology is pretty much advanced. The temple may have been built around that period as the epilogue shows more Predator ships arriving Earth. The aliens they use for sport in AVP may be a different kind of Alien species similar only to David's creation. The Engineers must have sold these eggs to the Predators or something that they themselves have created. After all these geek-stuff, I must say that Predator movies exist before Ripley fought these monsters hence there is plenty of room for a much better AVP movies in the future.
