This is an impressive film debut for Robert Eggers. He captures something special, different and unique with this movie. Ralph Ineson's voice is incredible. Masterful cinematography. That shot from the back of the wagon looking out to the pilgrims and Native Americans is so good. Really stands out to me. The eerie and unsettling minimalist soundtrack compliments the movie perfectly. The outfits and props are on point. That's something I always admire about Eggers is how he's able to teleport the audience to a specific place and time while also creating a very memorable atmosphere. A lot of attention to detail. Very striking and disturbing imagery. The sound design is beautifully detailed. You can even hear the creaks from the wood of the house. The lighting is so good with all the candle-lit scenes and natural lighting. They make really good use of darkness as well. It's a slower paced movie that takes its time building a sense of unease and dread through its eerie atmosphere.
The scene with the witch lathering herself with blood literally made me sick to my stomach. It's so f'd up. The movie explores themes of religion, faith, womanhood and fear. They shine a light on the religious hysteria that was going on during that time. It also takes a detailed look at what it might've been like to live during those days. All the hardships and harsh living conditions look real tough to deal with. The dad struggles to provide and it was his pride that got the better of him. The twins are creepy, especially the way they seem to know what's really going on. The mom is a neurotic mess, she comes off very annoying at times. The rocky dynamic between the family makes for some interesting drama. Everyone gives a great performance. The boy who plays Caleb did an incredible job. The parents end up being hypocrites. They preach all this religion but when it comes down to it, they sin and lie. The Witch is a very solid thought-provoking horror movie that's definitely worth watching. Raw score: 7.5/10.

The de-aging CGI they used on Stewart and McKellen looks weird. It looks ok for its time but you can still tell something's off about their face. There's more humor in this movie, it's the cheesiest out of the trilogy. Beast is an awesome character. The idea of "curing" the mutant gene with a vaccine is an interesting concept. The movie makes pretty good commentary on prejudice, conformity and discrimination with mutants. This can be tied into our real life society pretty easily. I like how Vinnie Jones plays the Juggernaut, he fits the role perfectly. He has the best line in the movie, followed by what Kitty calls him.
The downside of this movie is that it isn't as strong as the first two. The problem with this movie is that the plot is rushed. It doesn't take enough time to explore Jean's story arc and the cure arc. Cyclops is also gone and the quality doesn't look or feel as good as the first two movies. The tone is inconsistent with the previous two. Whereas the first two had more impact and you can take them more serious, this one feels like a joke. There's some moments throughout the movie that are really lame - both with dialogue, characters and action. The character's also don't get developed at all. They just show new characters and that's it. No exposition, no development. It's kind of disappointing overall. Still, it's pretty entertaining and there's some pretty good laughs throughout. Raw score: 6.9/10.

The Nightcrawler sequence at the beginning is so good. It's beautifully choreographed. Nightcrawler is such an interesting character, he's probably my favorite X-Men. This is a really solid movie that goes by quickly due to its well built story structure and storytelling. It's even better than the first movie. The story's engaging and interesting. The film locations and sets stand out. The underground facility stands out to me with its lighting and atmosphere. William Stryker is a great antagonist. A real ruthless and mean guy. Mystique giving the middle finger while sliding was awesome lol. The fight between Wolverine and the fingernail claw chick was good. Overall a really solid sequel to the original that improves on everything from the first movie. Raw score: 7.7/10.
