If you watch this film through the eyes of a PP supporter, you'll most likely be offended, review with disdain, pinpoint oppositions, judge as propaganda, and wrap with limited stars. If you're a former supporter, yet torn in measure, you may lean from side to side, expressing a more empathetic view. If you're a 'hell to the no', never PP for whatever reason, your review will reflect as unashamed, immoveable with polar opposition. Regardless which side of the life issue you stand, script flaws detected, performance fails, or opinion annoyances - the overiding truth remains... millions of mothers and their babies across the globe have been separated, suctioned, ripped, torn, flushed, dismembered and discarded. Though pain subsides, and memory fades, the spiritual bond of the separated, silenced and unspoken lives forever. For whatever reason, this temporal fate is destined, and one day the twain shall meet again in a perfect world where only love abides. So for now, I say to all who resonate with this truth... may the Good Shepherd in His grace and mercy keep both mother and child cradled in the ark of His hand until you meet again.
This movie had the right cast and all the pieces to make a powerful and persuasive film, but missed the mark in places that mattered most. The reviews posted spolight the good, bad, and unfortunate, so I'll shed light of a different color... I gave a low rating simply because the rediculous amount of prafanity and off color language. The script is saturated and there's no tip off to give time for less tolerant viewers to mute like there is with most sex or nude scenes for those who prefer to ffwd. The f-word is heard about 40 times; the s-word over 20; the n-word is used well more than 20 times; and so many other crude, and offensive content woven throughout. This was 'R' rated so we expect to be doused several times, but this was too much, to often. Words have influence and staying power and we're inundated with it more and more everyday, and everywhere we turn. It's unhealthy both psychologically and spiritually. If the writers are looking for shock value and emotional vent, I get it, but overexposure to anything, including profanity desensitizes and deadens the impact, rendering it useless at the end of the day. Hollywood, take a note - all things in moderation... not waterboarding.
This movie has been in my top 5 of all time, with the scene between John (SP) and his dad being my fav in the movie. Overall excellent performances and message still relavant today! From Joanna's genuine colorblind perspective, to John's feeling 'freed' by it, is as simple as it should be, if only society, and humanity would evolve at the same time,
or if bias, predjudice, and ignorant fears could be bound by the mere presence and power of love! As long as we allow sins of the past to have a place at the table, and continue to feed evil, the weight of its power is like a foot on the neck of tomorrow, and change cannot breakforth. We forgive, we don't forget, but we learn from it and move forward. If not for ourselves, our children and their children deserve us to leave this place better than we found it. If the last scene at the dinner table could be a cloned reality within our homes, would be a great testament. Thank you to TUBI for offering this gem for free viewing. I hope to see it make a comeback. We need it now more than ever.
