Luca Guadagnino is already a guarantee of something unique and in my case, uniquely familiar. I was profoundly moved by Queer and Daniel Craig's performance, I don't know how to describe it. He showed, yes showed, the mystery of desire in such a tender and powerful way. His intimate scenes with the spectacular Drew Starkey are a first for the screen because those moments are a combination of things and none of it is gratuitous or unnecessary. The amazing thing is that is impossible to guess it was needed until we see it. Now it lives in my brain, constantly. Every bit of the film seems to come out Luca Guadagnino's beautiful mind and I can say that after seeing most of his films. Who's idea was the casting of Lesley Manville? Not just surprising but superb. I'm over the moon. Thank you.
If it's true that acting is intimately connected to the truth then, this is it. I mean Ralph Fiennes because every look, every gesture in his extraordinary performance speaks of that, truth, it confirms it. I followed him throughout Conclave and he never let me go. I was his one hundred per cent. The story, a thriller of major proportions is told with religious attention to detail. What a fantastic director Edward Berger is. Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini, Sergio Castellito, they all contribute to the truth that Ralph Fiennes establishes at first glance. The film flows at an incredible speed without us noticing it. So, a remarkable piece of work.
Luca Guadagnino means something to me. Elegance and daringness for instance. His movies introduce you to something new even when it feels terribly familiar. Challengers is no exception. Tennis? Well yes whatever Luca Guadagnino wants to tell us because I know is going to be a portal to something unique, something personal. Zendaya is. I don't want to say revelation because I already knew she's very, very special. Josh O'Connor too. What moment for this wonderful young actor. I've already seen him in in two or three parts that I will never forget and. Mike Faist, I must confess, is totally new to me but I already love him., The first three way scene they have at the motel is just sublime. I know I will watch that many time. So I haven't said anything about the film yet and I'm not going to. Discover it, just like I did. I loved it.
