Cinephile_eye's rating
If you expect any character development in this movie, then you're going to be disappointed. It has a very slow pace, to the point where, at least for me, boredom set in.
Don't get me wrong; if you enjoy an extremely simple storyline, then I'm sure you'll be satisfied. However, this movie could have been so much more with a more complex and interesting plot, along with at least an attempt at character development. To be fair, there are only two main characters, which may also explain my boredom.
Yes, cinematically it is interesting, but the novelty can't sustain the entire film. There's no way on earth this deserves an 8.7 rating (as it is at the time of this review). Being cinematically impressive shouldn't cost £90 million-even throwing in the set designs, but it does make you wonder what could have been achieved with a more engaging story.

I am a huge fan of this style of filmmaking, and I admit that my rating reflects that.
That being said, I wasn't familiar with the Gantz universe before watching this (and you don't have to be either). Subsequently, I now know that Gantz is quite well-known in Japan, and yes, I have now also watched the other movies and the actual series.
If, like me, you are unfamiliar with Gantz but enjoy the style of the movie, then I highly recommend it, and I am confident you will enjoy it for the following reasons:
As mentioned, the movie's style is awesome and well-executed.
The storyline is intriguing, especially if sci-fi and "aliens" are your thing.
Similarly, it's also an action flick, with monsters.
Additional info: Apparently, Gantz:E is currently being published as a manga in Japan. Unfortunately, a Hollywood company currently owns the rights to Gantz, so it's doubtful that a new series or live-action adaptation will be produced anytime soon in Japan.
I can't say I'm overly enthusiastic about Hollywood producing a Gantz show or movie; Gantz is Japanese, and that's a good thing, in my opinion.

The first season had potential; however, one cannot help but feel that it has all been lost with season 2.
As has been pointed out, the pacing of this show is all wrong. The transitions between the various stories are either too fast or too slow, which merely exacerbates the feeling of a show cobbled together without purpose or reason.
Perhaps expectations for a Tolkien-inspired show are impossibly high due to Peter Jackson's endeavors (the LOTR movies, obviously), but this show, in terms of character development and scriptwriting, leaves a lot to be desired.
Great sets and costume design, though, for what that's worth.
