Not having read Agatha Christie's novel or having seen any other movie based on it, I had no expectations when starting this mini-series. I rather liked it. I particulaly liked Matthew Rhys' Inspector Leech. He was a war veteran obviously suffering from PTSD, and had lost most concern about everything in life. Two murders would then chain him back into everyday life and death, which was not a bad thing.
This was not a mystery where it was obvious who the killer or killers happened to be. It also was not obvious to me where Anjelica Huston happened to be. I finally realized she was there all along from the very beginning of the film. There were some twists and turns, and way too many kissing scenes. In addition, it was an interesting psychological study of sorts. The ending was good, very good.

The first episode of Season 4 was a very good Christmas one released last fall. The best episode ever made, in my opinion, which gave hope this uneven series was finally finding its footing. Now, at the end of the summer, a second episode has arrived, and quickly dashed all hope of this show ever being consistently stable.
It is a totally brain-dead episode where Sister Boniface, the Reverend Mother, Max, Jerry and Peggy get to watch a TV show episode being filmed at a local estate. The show is like a British Batman where the two main characters are called Foxman and Beaver. The storyline and episode action are both ridiculous beyond words, in both the fictional TV episode and the Sister Boniface episode.
You really have to wonder who is behind this show and what their mental makeup happens to be. Maybe you have to be British to understand and appreciate episodes like this one. I'm not British and saw the time spent watching it as a total waste of viewing time. I'm getting BritBox for 99 cents this month, but will definitely cancel before I'm charged the regular price next month, regardless if all the Season 4 episodes will be shown by then or not.
