DC's Legends of Tomorrow

DC's Legends of Tomorrow

  • So far looking somewhat pants but improving a little

First things first, if you can't abide a weak premise then this one is not for you. A whole show based on the idea that nobody thought to travel in time to when the villain was a pile of ashes and then re-burn them and re-burn them again.

The pilot was pretty dreadful, it does seem a lot like DC have swept together a bunch of B-list characters (some of whom are more worthy than others) and tried to turn it into a show. To their credit the series seems to fully embrace this concept, repeatedly referencing the fact that these guys are also-rans.

Let's not discuss the acting in any depth because this is a DC project and let's face it, the acting is rarely even decent; it is however worse than normal.

I agree with the front page review in that they seem remarkably inept at getting things done considering the powers at their disposal. I am concerned that you can't make a series stick for very long just based on the idea of ending Vandal Savage, it will definitely get tiresome. They also don't seem like a group who would plausibly stay together to get other villains afterwards (although as I've said, plausibility is not the strong suit here anyway).

Having said all this, I do think the second episode was better than the first and hopefully it gets better as it builds steam. No rating yet as I live in hope (perhaps somewhat naively).

  • Very interesting concept, could yet be a winner

I felt obliged to write something as the review showing on the main page was written by such a Negative Nelly and needs displacing as quickly as possible. So far only the pilot has been released so no rating but it shows early signs of promise.

Harry is a detective, played by the seemingly ageless James Nesbitt, who becomes imbued with the ability to bend luck in his favour after he inherits an ancient-looking trinket. However the person he gets this from did not seem at all happy with it and the show begins to hint at an early stage that all this good luck has a Newtonian counterpart that must be suffered others.

Investigating a series of deaths seemingly linked to the item and dogged by his new, straight-arrow boss, Harry must try to get to the bottom of the mystery of his new-found amulet, the mysterious and gorgeous woman who forced it upon him and the as yet unknown character trying to get it back again.

It's early days as yet but the plot is intriguing, the acting of British quality and the main character is most certainly an anti-hero, which I personally find quite appealing. Worth a look.
