  • Sovereign Exceeds Expectations!

Sovereign (2025) is the best movie of the year by far! Based on the real story of the 2010 Arkansas shooting, the directorial debut of Christian Swegal was strong and profound. The entire cast and crew are superb; and the movie left no stone unturned.

Sure, this movie might not be for everyone. It is heavy, heartbreaking, terrifying at times, and it will leave you in the inevitable state of doom. There are some hopeful things that happened in the movie, but as you continue to watch, deep inside you know that hopefulness is in borrowed time.

Nick Offerman set the bar, but Jacob Tremblay played it equally scene by scene. Nick disappeared in the role while Jacob, once again, gut punched the audience; and this time with an even more heart wrenching performance.

As usual with Jacob, he never overacts in his roles; he always performs the most believable way in the most exceptional way possible. His eyes speak louder in silent scenes, while his screams slam you with the right amount of pressure - indeed an amazing performance! Jacob makes you understand Joe's confusion, worry, and pain - and it sticks to you like a symbiote.

Sovereign (2025) is an even heavier movie compared to Room (2015). This is not taking anything away from Tremblay's 2015 breakout role; but as Joe, he set his new bar up high. Certified reviewers even dub Jacob Tremblay as the MVP of the Sovereign cast, and it's all the while praising each and every one as well.

It's not premature to say that Sovereign is Jacob Tremblay's best acting performance to date.

  • Another Bad Luck For Jacob Tremblay

This movie is another example of Jacob Tremblay being plagued with bad directors because once again, Jacob was underutilized in his own co-lead movie. I'm even betting that the horror movie that Jacob directed in Prodigy Camp in August 2024 was better than this one.

There was so much potential for his character Samuel Brass, but they intentionally withdrew from doing anything good with him. His character portrayal is lacking so much consistency along with confusing temperaments, and add on top of that, a terrible character arc.

One time he's trying to be a bully, another time he's being pouty, and another time he's suddenly a compassionate person. His character simply can't make up his mind. He's just there to cover up what's missing in the plot having no self-originality and going nowhere. What were the writer and director doing? Sam's arc was a mix of being so forced and all over the place.

Jacob Tremblay is one of the best young actors of the industry, but the bad writing and directing was as if made to ruin his image. Make no mistake, I love watching Jacob in every moment of the movie, but his scenes could've been done way better than this.

The takes were terrible as if they're trying to fit a quarter of the movie in a single day - as if this movie made in four days. Jacob's takes should've had been repeated. His scenes looked as if they were only rehearsing and not actually filming the movie at all. It was 100% not Jacob's fault why it was terrible; it was all the incompetent writer and director's fault.

  • A try hard & edgy rip off from Good Boys 2019

Hollywood loves to choose actors who are sassy and who only has a face rather than select the ones who are extremely talented. Sure this movie has some talent in it and some did great. But when it comes to choosing successors and sequels and a lot of "spiritual successors", they fail quite a lot. This movie Incoming has been compared so much to Good Boys, and it barely scratches the surface of that gem of a 2019 movie. You cannot just rip it off and make this somewhat a replacement. Mason is a very attractive guy, but he can never top or let alone replace Jacob Tremblay. Good Boys had been long overdue for a sequel, but what happened is this movie - a try hard and edgy spiritual replacement for Good Boys.
