I discovered Doctor who in 2016 because of another sci-fi series The Flash. I got curious when sonic screwdriver was mentioned repeatedly so I searched for it, downloaded the first season of the NewWho and was instantly hooked. From the moment the Doctor mentioned "Nice to meet you Rose Tyler! Run for your life!", until the regeneration of the last Doctor into Billy Piper. For all the farewell episodes, I find this the best. Don't get me wrong, I loved every episode and really look forward to the next story. But this Christmas special really touched my heart. It's like a culmination of every episode of Matt Smith's run. It started silly and finished with a bang. The story is what I can only describe as epic. I hanged in to every dialogue as Smith delivered them flawlessly. Coleman was amazing and extremely lovable. The closing monologue kept me glued to the screen as every sentences were delivered with such emotion. The music was golden and emphasized what I'm seeing, the visual effects spectacular for a TV show and there wasn't a wasted element in the entire show. Even though my favorite is David Tennant, I say Matt Smith gave this wonderful series a bit of everything. I laughed, got worried, got excited and even cried. I'm not hoping he'll come back as the doctor but I would be delighted to see him being the Doctor for specials and stuff. Anyway, this Christmas special will always be my favorite.
I waited a long time for this series. I watched the entire thing and didn't really feel it. I mean the story line is a lot closer to the book that the attempted movie adaptation. But I think the cast is not ready or not directed well. Though the movie lost the original story, the actors and actress did a better job. But I have to put in consideration that the ages of the three protagonists are accurate, I'm afraid they didn't capture the essence of the characters. I didn't feel them. Of course they were very young so I guess I better put that into consideration. I hope they'll do a better job with the Sea of Monsters or the show might not last another season.
